Editorial Reviews

The Canterville Ghost! Based on Oscar Wilde's Classic Tale! Strange, unexplained occurrences in an old English manor are turning the Otis family's dream vacation into a nightmare. One night, they actually meet the long dead Sir Simon de Canterville - and discover just how cowardly a ghost can be! Mr. and Mrs. Otis soon turn the tables and start haunting the terrified ghost, while their daughter Virginia protects him. Mustering all her courage, Virginia helps Sir Simon break the curse that had doomed him to walk Canterville's halls forever. Starring Richard Kiley, Shelley Fabres and Mary Wickes!

A bonus was seeing the details of a fine old castle.

Was looking for a copy of the movie my Grandmother had watched with my brother and I when we were younger and now I've found it.

I know for sure Neve Campbell and Alyssa Milano is not the girl who played Virginia.

Its a kids movie dude. The only people buying and watching this are people like me who watched it as a kid and wants their kids to watch it. Its that simple. Its a kid friendly ghost story that sends a positive family message. That's it. It stars Berry van Dyke following the fail of Airwolf when Canada ruined it.

Bottom line you knew it was a kids movie, it was on the Disney channel in the 80's so its your problem, not the movie.

Writing a rant about a kids ghost story movie just goes to show how much free time one has when he still lives in his mothers basement.

Contrary to another long-winded review for this product, this version of The Canterville Ghost is simply amazing. It's got a few little genuine frights (if you're younger, of course) and a lot of heart. Richard Kiley is amazing in the title role. This is the version I grew up with, and it will always reign supreme in my book.

This I a Hollywood remake of the original "The Canterville Ghost" made by in 1944 that
has Charles Laughton as the ghost, Robert Young and his great his long long Long time
ago Nephew. and Margaret O'Brian star of "Lost Angel". I hate all remakes of classic movies
as they are never as good as the original. You can buy the original here on Amazon if you want
to see the movie and see what I mean!

I didn't care to much for this version. It jumps into the story and seems to skip to the middle and end a little too soon for me. It's a shorter version then the one I like, and I think that's way it kind of jumps into it.

Bought it for my granddaughter but I've always liked it as well. Sad but with a happy ending that she likes.

Granted, this is an unsophisticated version of the story, but it possesses a certain charm. It would be great for children. There's a few hints to things more "mature", but well played. I'd seen it many years ago and being a fan of Richard Kiley's, it was a "must have"! A bonus was seeing the details of a fine old castle.

this movie was made when movies were about the story not the extra things that people believe that many movies need to have today. Many of these black and white movies are now classics which is due to the story . Not the violence, language, or nudity. Don't get me wrong I like those too but the classics are just that the classics of our past movie making.
