cumbia rebajada!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Canto Que Espanta La Pena (Audio CD)
I am from Monterrey, NL; MEXICO. Monterrey has been blessed by having the best of both worlds. Due to its closeness to the USA border (2-hour drive), and to its rich Mexican culture (and population), Monterrey has procclaimed itself as the place were "electronic cumbias" were born. Not only this, but it has seen the rise of many "rap-colombiana-electronic-funk-world music" bands in the past five to ten years (Control Machete, "cool" Plastilina Mosh, Jumbo, Zurdok, Genitallica, Celso Piña...etc...). Now, Monterrey has the pleasure to introduce to the world a simple, "barrio" kind of music with La Verbena Popular. La Verbena honors its name (meaning the "small town" party) by creating a "feel good" CD with excellent rhythm and sound. Not a masterpiece but a very happy, "I want to live life to its fulliest" CD. Just push play and let the world spin.
