From the heart of her native Texas, Emily Grace Berry channels the vibrant musical spirit of California's Laurel Canyon. It was a soulful brand of country set to a rock and roll beat in the seventies when artists like Linda Ronstadt, Gram and Emmylou, and Jackie DeShannon first created it. Now Emily puts a Texas brand on canyon music, and she can do that, because she grew up on a Texas ranch. When Texas legend Jerry Jeff Walker played at her family's ranch in 2000, Emily got up and sang Redneck Mother
with him. She was in the third grade. Jerry Jeff's drummer that day was power pop rocker Freddie Steady Krc, now Emily's musical mentor. Freddie heard the canyon sound in Emily's voice, so he called this record Canyon Music
. And that's what it is, sung straight from the heart by a riveting vocalist wise beyond her musical years.
