5.0 out of 5 stars Relax ... let your spirit soar ...
This is NOT a narrated travelog. But if you've had a bad day at work, pour yourself a glass of wine, settle into a comfortable chair, turn down all the lights, take a few deep breaths and play this video. If, at the end of the video, you are still tense or depressed, you MAY need professional help. This is probably the most beautiful, relaxing experience you can have...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
I was hoping for something that would give me some info on these places. Instead it is just video (a lot of time lapse photography), some of which is pretty cool, with music playing in the background. There is no narration - you have to figure out on your own the location being shown. So if what you are after is something that is relaxing and beautiful to look at then...

5.0 out of 5 stars A trek through space and time......, April 4, 2008

This review is from: Canyonlands: A Southwest Desert Odyssey (DVD)
If you love nature, you will love Canyonlands: A Southwest Desert Odyssey. Don't expect any narration, because there is none. When I first watched this film (I've seen it several times), I anticipated a Patrick Stewart or Alec Baldwin voice-over somewhere along the way, but alas it never happened. And I'm all the more grateful.

The only thing you will find in this spectacular odyssey through the American Southwest is an abundance of awe-inspiring and utterly wondrous scenery. The manner in which the desert world is captured in this film is mesmerizing, and there is a non-terrestrial quality to many of the scenes throughout the film's journey.

The images are so beautiful at times I found myself doubtful that these places were actually a part of our planet. I was thoroughly impressed with the way in which many of the scenes were processed on film and for anyone interested in time-lapse imagery, this is your chance to see this process in action in some of the most beautiful places on earth.

Have you had a bad day at work? Is your life in the dumps? Girlfriend/boyfriend-Wife/husband left for good this time? Has your cat just ran away? Is the world closing in around you? If so, put this dvd in your vcr and lose yourself in the beauty, majesty, and serenity of our natural world....

Time lapse video on steroids ! Beautiful footage of the Southwest set to music. Like the place you see ? Turn on subtitles and it tells you where it was shot.

I recently purchased Canyonlands from amazon.com. This is an excellent companion to the DVD that I had purchased earlier called Timeless from the same team consisting of David Fortney & Patrick O'Hearn. Here in this video, Fortney concentrates on spectacular images from Death Valley, Mono Lake, Sedona, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon, Arches & much more. Although the video, runs only 37 minutes, cameraman & creator Fortney uses amazing techniques including slow-pan & time lapse....images that create a haunting & reminisent effect on the human mind. Just be forewarned that the music is not composed by Patrick O'Hearn (as advertised) but by native American flute players R.Carlos Nakai & John Huling. While I am not being critical, the music, in certain parts somehow do not enhance the visual beauty of David Fortney. This will be justified in the short trailer of 'TIMELESS' that follows the presentation of 'CANYONLANDS'.

1.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful images but the music is NOT O'Hearn, December 13, 2010
This review is from: Canyonlands: A Southwest Desert Odyssey (DVD)
I see another reviewer already pointed out that the music in this video is not acutally by Patrick O'Hearn, despite the fact that this is advertised not only on Amazon but right on the sleeve of the cover itself. Had this info been available to me earlier, I'd have certainly passed on purchasing this. The only way the O'Hearn claim can be made is because there is a bonus track at the end which is already part of Timeless, which was released several years before this one. Pretty cheap. Certainly tricked me.

Some might argue that the music is only the background to the imagery, which is, of course, fantastic. However, for many of the fans interested in this type of product, the two go hand-in-hand. The music included here is very nice and relaxing, but, when compared to what O'Hearn achieves with his mastery of ambient music, there is no comparison to the end result. The only way I'll watch this video again would be with my own O'Hearn soundtrack, but I've already got Timeless, so that'll be easier.

With music by Carlos Nakai and incredible cinematography, all you'll be able to do is sit and watch with awe. I have a $99 DVD player, a ten year old 21 inch television set and even so, was transported into a different world. I plan to use this as my yoga tranquility mood enhancement. Dogs and children should also respond to it well.
