5.0 out of 5 stars This bar weighs 32 LBS.
This is a completely re-written review as of August 2009.

Here is the history: after the December 2007 review saying that the weight was incorrect, we double-checked Cap Barbell's website. It said that the Olympic 6' bar weighed 40 LBS. We also contacted our rep at Cap. She confirmed that the bar does indeed weigh 40 LBS. We found one and weighed it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
Let me start by saying that I rarely leave bad reviews, however I'm so unhappy about this I felt like I had to say something.

I received the bar promptly, no complaints there. It looked fine. Then I weighed it. It weighs 28 lbs. For those of you inexperienced in these things, that's about 7 lbs lighter then it ordinarily should be. Naturally this led me...

Fast forward to July 2009, and the most recent negative review. Cap Barbell's website still says the same thing it did last time we looked. We contact our rep at Cap once again. They weigh the bar again, and find out that the most recent reviewer was right.

What happened in the last year, we're not sure; perhaps Cap Barbell sourced the bar from a different factory. In any event, this bar now weighs 32 LBS. Cap Barbell will be updating its website shortly, and we will correct our description here on Amazon.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cap Barbell Solid Chrome Bar (6ft), June 15, 2011

This bar definitely exceeded my expectations and then some. This bar is only 3X lbs but it's a foot shorter than an official bar and it's only roughly $60 so you get what you pay for.

Good: What's great about this bar is the price most obviously and collars do swivel easily which your wrists will thank you for. The middle part of the bar is grooved like any bar so ease of use. The bar was very well packaged so no defects were observed.

Bad: The bad really for me is just there aren't any finger placement lines which most 7' bars I've used have but not a game breaker. Using Amazon Prime overnight it still took a week to receive so that was kind of frustrating but not a knock on the product itself.

Bottom Line: All the "bros" writing bad reviews are just aggravated because they want 1,500lbs Olympic bar quality for 1/10th the price. 300lbs is a very agreeable weight limit for a bar in this price range and for home use. If you're that devastated that the bar isn't exact weight go to a commercial gym; Personal bests should be about YOU noticing a difference and not being able to tell your friends I can bench 215 instead of 205 because they won't care. :*)

5.0 out of 5 stars nice barbell bar, March 8, 2007
The bar is very solid and has a good looking chrome finish. It takes olympic weight plates (2 inch diameter.) The shipping and packaging are good too. Overall , i have no complaint with this purchase. I would recommend this bar.

5.0 out of 5 stars love my bar, June 3, 2011

I got the 6' bar. You will need a 2 piece squat/press rack but I really didn't have room in my my tiny apartment for a standard bar & rack setup. Everything is machined well, that one reviewer must have gotten a lemon. As a small woman starting a six month lifting program at home this is perfect for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entry level, April 15, 2011
This review is from: Cap Barbell Solid Chrome Bar (Sports)
As my first bar, I elected to purchase the second cheapest one I could find. I ended up with the 72" CAP Olympic bar. I bought it from another site, where it was $40. I considered going for the 7' one, but with my home gym (read: free space on the floor in my bedroom) space is at a premiuim. It arrived intact, packaged in a cardboard tube that had been torn and taped up in the middle (not sure if this happened in shipping or not). When I unpackaged it, the sleeves spin easily, though one more easily than the other. I had contacted CAP before I ordered it, and was quoted a weight of 35 lbs. I haven't bothered to check the actual weight (I haven't actually acquired weight plates for it, let alone a bench or stand), but as I chose this one for being cheap and entry-level, as long as it's between 30 and 40, I'm fine, as if I get serious about lifting, I'll upgrade.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Bar fits the bill when all you care about is a good workout, November 11, 2010

I have read all of the reviews for this item and I have to say that these people just need to get past whatever it is that the bar weighs and realize you can add more weight to the bar in case you need it. The bar I purchased was symmetrical, no defects. Nice for substitute for bicep curls if you are like me and need a full contraction substitue for the EZ bars. Can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome barbell!, January 14, 2012

Received the barbell on time and in great condition. The barbell itself is excellent. I would highly recommend it. However, it is VERY heavy -- about 20-25 pounds.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid bar for the price, December 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cap Barbell Solid Chrome Bar (Sports)
I bought this bar to keep on the ground to use for dead lifts while my other bar stays on the rack for bench and squats.

The bar is very nice, especially for the price. I'm not a competitive lifter, I just use it in my garage for my own workouts so I haven't taken the time to see if it really weighs what the company claims. So far I've put around 175lbs on it and it seems very sturdy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great For Arm Curls, December 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The bar itself was great. I ordered the 5ft version. I pretty much only use it for arm curls and it's pretty comfortable. It feels much better than trying to curl with the 7ft bar.

As for the packaging...Oh man. The tube box it came in was torn apart on one end. It was ripped and the box looked like a coil. The bar for the most part was still in good condition minus one small area where some chipped off probably because of the box being mishandled by, I think UPS.

The 5ft bar itself functions great for what I intended it to be used for. If you are pressed for spaced and want to use both an EZ Curl Bar and this bar, the EZ Curl Bar will actually fit between the other plates when both bars are loaded up. So you can put this bar in front or behind the EZ Curl Bar with no problem and save a little space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Olympic Style Bar, September 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this bar hoping it would permit me to use my 2" Olympic style plates. It does not disappoint. It is very solid and supportive. Please note that this 72" bar will have a tight fit against the bar holders on some weight sets. The bar collars will just fit on some of the wider weight bench racks. Though a tight fit it still works out just fine and I am well pleased with this product
