5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, well built, nice quality
This set is solidly built, and it has a quality feel. Rubber washers are provided for the collar and the bar (one on each side of the weight stack) so the weights stay relatively tight once you screw the collars on (unlike some other screw-on collar sets out there). The knurling on the bar is about right, not too rough, but provides a good grip. (I've used some bars in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Weights are good, bar is OK
The weights are what they are. Not much to say about them. They are cheap and do the job.
The barbell has a crappy chrome coating that flakes easily. Not a fan of threaded barbells and dumbbells but they are a lot cheaper then the better gym class sets. Over all not a bad purchase but if you can afford it, go for the non-threaded type.

The knurling on the bar is about right, not too rough, but provides a good grip. (I've used some bars in the past that are cheaply machined and really chew up your hands - not a problem with this set) I also use the 1" plates from this set on my Curl and Super Curl Bars - not much too report there, they work! Overall I am please with the quality and appearance of this set and would recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it's Weight in Weights., October 5, 2011

Less than a dollar a pound? AND a threaded bar? AND FREE Shipping? You will not beat this value. I've looked high and low for a weight set with a bar and this is by far the best value going. I'm going to buy another set just ot have the extra weights.

Chipped paint? Who cares? (Mine aren't chipped, btw.) It still weighs the same and I'm much less worried about how they look and more worried about how I look.

I love the threaded bar. I've never had one before. I've always had those little clips, which are fine too. But for me, it's well worth a few seconds of threading to not have the weights spinning on the bar while lifting. I love that. They don't move at all.

This set is high-quality and high-value. For a standard size weight set, you'll do no better.

I'm so happy with this purchase. It is great quality, especially considering the price. The bar is sturdy and well made. The endcaps are easy to take on and off but stay put during use so there's no worry about a weight falling off. The plates offer a good variety of weights and I like the holes around the edges because it makes it easy to pick them up. I purchased a few 2.5 pound weights to round out my collection and now I have everything I need for now and for many years to come. Highly recommended.

Very happy with the product. Probably the 6th set of these that I've bought over the years due to an ever expanding home gym. The only problem I've had was with the shipping, the last 2 orders the company stated they contacted me for delivery, but in fact never did so it took longer for delivery.

This is a well-made weight set. They have a finish, so they are nice to handle, unlike the rough cast weights. They also have convenient holes that make them easy to pick up and move around. The threaded caps are the only annoying issue I had. It gets old when you're swithing weight out a lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs better paint job, August 22, 2010

Plates are designed well (for easy grabbing), but the paint is thin and flaking off right out of the box. I have a feeling the chrome on the bar will not last very long.

For the price, I expected better. Just have to hit 'em with a little Rust Oleum sooner than planned.

Stay fit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Chrome Slivers and Rising Cost, April 23, 2011
This review is from: Cap Barbell Grip Plate Weight Set with Threaded Bar (1-Inch/150 Pound) (Sports)
It does what you buy it for, but after about a month the chrome starts flaking off the bar at the threaded points and the slivers can stick in your hands. This is really annoying in the middle of a workout. I'd suggest buying a different set that doesn't have threaded ends and uses clips. It's less likely to have a flaking problem and will be faster than having to screw on and off the bar ends every time you need to change the weight.

Also: I bought this set for $180 dollars in January of 2011, here it is April the same year and the price has jumped almost a $100 dollars. Sorry, the economy hasn't tanked that much harder in four months.

2.0 out of 5 stars Returned it, January 15, 2011
This review is from: Cap Barbell Grip Plate Weight Set with Threaded Bar (1-Inch/150 Pound) (Sports)
I puchased this set at Dick's. I did not like the threads at all. They are annoying and time consuming. Who wants to cool down while changing weights? I returned it and got a set with the standard clamps like I am used to at the gym.

1.0 out of 5 stars Caution!! It's a rip off, December 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cap Barbell Grip Plate Weight Set with Threaded Bar (1-Inch/150 Pound) (Sports)
This company is a rip off. I received my order late and incomplete. The bar was missing and also the weight was missing. When I called the customer service, they gave me all kind of B.S in the world and refuse to take responsiblity. First they told me to get in touch with Amazon which I had already done so. Then they blamed it on the shipping company. It's been over 1 week since the product arrived and I'm still waiting for them to resolve this issue. Finally, I got my credit card company involved in this issue and aksed the Cap barbel to send someone to pickup for return. This company is a nightmare to deal with. I would not buy anything from them even if my life was at stake and they had the cure.
If you want to go through nightmare, order from this company by all means..
