I was a bit skeptical about buying an aftermarket battery grip for my new Canon EOS Rebel T2i (550D in other parts of the world), but since using it I have nothing but good things to say about this part.

I recently took a short vacation to Mt. Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota and had this grip installed for the entire three day trip. I took hundreds of photos and a lot of video. Note also that I'm not an 'old-school' photographer that likes to use the viewfinder but rather prefer to use 'Live View' screen mode which eats the batteries much more quickly. The batteries that came with the grip lasted for the first two days before running low. I had another set and was able to keep on shooting. I also like the included AA battery tray which gives you the option of powering the camera with six AA batteries (which could be a real life saver in a pinch!).

I would rate the feel, fit & finish and quality of this part to be on par with the camera itself. The plastic and grip are nearly identical to the camera. The controls function perfectly and make portrait position photos more comfortable than I've ever experienced. I have large hands and the comfort factor is the biggest reason that I purchased this to begin with as the normal landscape position is more comfortable as well.

Anyone who has picked up the T2i (550D) knows instantly that it's not a heavy camera and actually is a bit on the lightweight side. This grip with two batteries actually improves the balance by adding heft and size which can create a much better user experience.

The only thing I would caution is to consider buying the package with four batteries to allow for change-outs if you don't already have spares.

This battery grip does exactly what it promises to do. It double's your battery time and provides redundant shutter (w/half-press!) and function buttons when you rotate the camera 90 degrees for vertical shots. It provides an excellent grip platform and makes the camera much more comfortable to hold and use with surprisingly little added weight.

Fit and finish are good and blend perfectly with the body of the camera. It even allows you to use AA batteries in a pinch: such as when you find yourself on location and forgot to charge your battery-packs the night before. (Bear in mind, however, that the 6 AA batteries you will need to use give a little less juice than one, fully charged Li-ion battery pack. Plan accordingly.)

Finally, if you shoot any significant quantity of video with the T2i/550D, you will bless the day you made the exceedingly wise decision to buy a grip that double's its battery capacity.

This grip is VERY inexpensive compared to other accessories you are going to find yourself buying and is one of the highest value to cost accessories you can find for your DSLR. Now that you have a T2i/550D, do you self a favor: buy (1) a good, name brand, class-6 SD card in as high a capacity as you can afford, (2) A lens hood, (3) the best fluid head tripod you can afford (for video), (4) a monopod, (5) a good camera bag, and (6) one of these battery grips. After that, you can start spending some real money on lenses, audio recording equipment, green screens, still and video editing software, a faster computer, etc. :)

Absolutely perfect replacement for the Canon BG-E8 battery grip. It has every single feature that the 4x more expensive Canon branded version has, including the holder for the camera's battery door and even the retracting notch for the DC power adapter. It is solidly built and matches the T2i/550D build quality, color, and grip texture. Why in the world you you pay so much more just for the brand name version when you can get the exact same product here?

I was interested in both the Canon BG-E8 and some extra batteries, but couldn't afford or justify paying for the Canon brand products. I took a gamble and went for an aftermarket deal on the battery pack plus 2 batteries on Amazon.com for $55.48 ($50.49 + $4.99 shipping). The seller was "New Harbor" and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Item arrived in 6 days, which was prior to the estimated delivery date. Neither the battery pack nor the batteries identify the manufacturer's name. The box reflected printing in both English and Chinese. The English text included "NICANO DSLR BATTERY PACK", "NICANO INC.", "Made in China" and "Compatible Camera: Canon 550D". Box contained one battery pack, one battery tray that holds two LP-E8 lithiums and a second tray that holds 6 AA batteries, and instructions. The instruction sheet included easy to follow pictures and text in Chinese and English.

The two aftermarket LP-E8 batteries loaded easily into the tray, which slid tightly into the batter pack. The pack secures easily and tightly to the camera. The fit and finish of the battery pack match the camera perfectly. Battery pack includes all the same features as Canon BG-E8 grip at a fraction of the cost. I tested each of the features and they work like they're supposed to. After 2 months of frequent use (approx. 1,200 photos) I'm very pleased with the performance of the grip and the batteries. I find that I take alot more shots in portrait and prefer the feel of the camera with the battery grip attached. In fact, it hasn't been off since I received it and don't envision the need to do so.
