3.0 out of 5 stars It works--for awhile.
O.K., you can't find the Canon LP-E6 for your 5D Mark II without getting hosed big time by the supplier. This 7.2V 1800mAh Li-ion battery will do the trick until Canon gets its act together.

It appears well-made and identical to the Canon LP-E6. It powers the 5D Mark II nicely. That said, you should know:

O.K., you can't find the Canon LP-E6 for your 5D Mark II without getting hosed big time by the supplier. This 7.2V 1800mAh Li-ion battery will do the trick until Canon gets its act together.

It appears well-made and identical to the Canon LP-E6. It powers the 5D Mark II nicely. That said, you should know:

1. DO NOT use the Canon charger--it will ruin the battery. Use the included charger. I labeled my battery AND charger so there will be no mix-up with the batteries.

Battery comes without a charge, but charges quickly. They recommend letting the light go green for two hours before first use.

2. Since there is no internal microchip, you can't check the power level of the battery in the field--not even on the camera's top LCD panel!

That said, the battery only costs [...] bucks as opposed to being gouged for $[...] plus, and it doubles the 5D Mark II's already impressive capacity in the field.

FYI UPDATE: After using it for a year, I just had the battery die after five shots. The Canon brand batteries are still working, though at somewhat reduced capacity. I guess the life-expectancy of these off-brand batteries is about one year.

1. Doesn't communicate with the camera --> A. no battery meter to tell you how much power is left / B. you can't use the 'battery memory' options...(i.e. - the camera won't remember the battery and how much charge is left should you pull it out and reuse it later) <--see your manual if you don't know what I'm talking about here.
2. You can't use the standard battery charger...it will ruin the battery.

Conclusion
==========
Please read the title of this review again...

Yeah, I mean it...this battery really packs some good power. I mean, it really performs equally to the LP-E6. So you loose the convenience of knowing how much charge you have left. Not a big deal, just charge before you go and pack a spare...

Better yet, buy two of these batteries, compared to buying the genuine ones..you'll be able to afford the generic battery grip - that's where this battery shines...(in pairs)

(Zeikos ZE-CBG5DII Battery Grip for Canon 5D II) <-- be sure to check out my review of the battery grip...

I don't mind not knowing how much power I have left as long as I know I have a ton of power. It's kind of like having a broken fuel gauge on your car. Just fill up regularly (recharge) and keep track of your miles (power consumption) you'll never have a problem...I haven't yet.

I'm thinking of getting four, I'll never run out of power!!

(I would have given 5 stars if this battery communicated with the camera) <--P.S. -- buy this item from BargainCell, you won't be disappointed in their service.

1.0 out of 5 stars Watch out! You may loose your data!, October 31, 2009
This review is from: High Capacity LP-E6 Replacement Lithium-Ion Battery With Charger for Canon Digital SLR EOS 5D Mark II 60D 7D Digital Camera (Electronics)
I used this battery as an emergency backup. In the past, I had no problem, however today I used at an airshow, and the battery power ran completely out. Not a problem in itself (although there is NO warning, since it doesn't communicate). I was shooting HD video when the power apparently ended, and the screen of my $2600 MK2 went blank, and the mirror appeared to stay up. I popped the battery out, popped in a genuine battery that had a very little juice left in it, and the mirror (or something) clicked down, and the camera came on.

After re-charging my genuine battery at a nearby newscrew's stand, I shot the rest of the show with a genuine battery.
WHEN I GOT HOME, ALL PICTURES AND VIDEO SHOT DURING AND PRIOR TO THE GENERIC BATTERY HAD BEEN ERASED/CORRUPTED!!!! The entire first half of the airshow was gone from my card!
Needless to say, a bad day, but the greater cause for concern is of course the camera. I will NEVER use a non-canon battery in my camera again. I am purchasing two more just to have genuine charged backups on hand. You spent over $4000 on a camera and lenses. Don't screw it up over the price of a couple Canon batteries.

1.0 out of 5 stars Short battery Life 40min. at the most..., January 18, 2010

This review is from: High Capacity LP-E6 Replacement Lithium-Ion Battery With Charger for Canon Digital SLR EOS 5D Mark II 60D 7D Digital Camera (Electronics)
The battery is not reliable, and has extremely short charge capacity.

I undestand that the battery won`t show the charge level on the camera's monitor, but I used as a very good charge level reference the moment my camera shut off (because this lousy battery DIED) and this was after 30 or 40 minutes of taking pictures with an external flash mounted on my camera( imagine how less the charge would last if I use the camera's own flash ).

I bought 2 batteries, both of them work the same poor way. As a conclution: they have a very LOW charge capacity wich results in a poor performance. These batteries are unreliable. The vendor should tell this on the product description.

They fit well, the charger included is nice & small, charges them quickly, but the batteries are lousy and unreliable.

Camera: Canon 7D, external flash 580EXII. Original Canon Battery gives you about 750shots per charge, this one 80 or 100 at the most.

I won't recomend this product to a friend, not even to an enemy...

I own 2 genuine LP-E6 batteries and two of these. They are equal except for the fact that these don't show up on the battery meter. No big deal, I use them as backups before I hit the AA pack for my battery grip. Excellent value and a must buy for any serious photographer.

This thing worked for two full charges before totally dying. The charges lasted only about 1/4 of the amount of time that the original LP-E6 battery does. In other words, you will be wasting your money if you buy this battery. It did save me on the two occasions that I needed it, lasting just long enough to charge my original LP-E6. In this case OEM is totally worth the extra dinero.

5.0 out of 5 stars LP-E6 Replacement Battery with Charger for Canon EOS 5D MK II, July 15, 2010

Works as indicated. Longer life than Canon battery. The only things you might want to know are:

1) The 5D MK II won't keep track of its charge capacity, and
2) it won't charge in the Canon charger.

Neither of these are in any way detrimental. The battery comes with its own charger, and it seems to supply battery power to the camera FOREVER.

Considering the extremely reasonable price and the terrific battery life between charges, this is an absolute no-brainer in terms of whether to purchase this or another Canon-made battery.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great AND Cheap Battery for Canon EOS 7D, May 24, 2010

This review is from: High Capacity LP-E6 Replacement Lithium-Ion Battery With Charger for Canon Digital SLR EOS 5D Mark II 60D 7D Digital Camera (Electronics)
I've been using this since Nov. 2009 and had no problem (power-wise). There were occasions that I used until it was fully drained. However, it didn't impact my pictures nor the 7D. Note: I haven't had the occasion of a battery becoming dead during video - so I can't comment on that.
It the battery becomes dead, the 7D will simply have not power. Nothing worse happened.

More ofen than not, I mix it with the original Canon LP-E6 battery in an "Adorama" brand of battery grip for 7D/5D. This way the battery monitor in the 7D body will show the charge.

Note: You must charge this battery in the charger that came with it. IT WILL NOT CHARGE using the Canon LP-E6 charger.

I seriously don't understand why everyone is giving this terrible reviews--did you not read the product description? It says it will not communicate with the camera. However, if you know roughly how many shots to expect given your shooting habits, and you have another battery on hand, why does it matter? If you're a professional wildlife photographer I suppose it would be unnerving to think your battery could die at the moment the grizzly does a kung-fu backflip to catch a bald eagle, but then again, you'd probably also have a $6000 telephoto lens and would have bought the normal battery.

The package I received also included a car cigarette adaptor plug and a European (two round pin) to N. American outlet adaptor in addition to the charger and battery. That made my day since I was headed to Europe on a trip and forgot to buy an adaptor.

For 2 reasons, I am so happy to give up the battery indicator, and give this battery 5 stars. First, as all of you know this battery costs $60 less than the original canon battery. The second thing I got was a car charger! I did not see this written any where in the page nor saw it in the product pictures. It was like a free add on for me. When I bought the battery, I agreed to pay that amount without knowing about the car charges. I suggest you contact the seller before to make sure that your purchase includes one.
