This is an awesome collection of games. All together this 'game' or collection is perhaps the best game for current generation consoles IMO. Go ahead and laugh! This is because most modern games are not fun and lack gameplay. The only awesome game I've played from current generation consoles is Ninja Gaiden.

These are REAL games from the GOLDEN ERA of ARCADE. IMO some of these old games should be made modern! Imagine Forgotten Worlds in full intense 3-D spectular mayhem fashion on Xbox 360 and PS3. However 3-D can really kill games, this is evident in many remakes such as Castlevania LOI. IMO current generation consoles are not all that and playing 3-D games on a single TV screen just isn't all that. Im waiting for hologram consoles. Hey Billy Gates I know you can do it.

Looking at the preview screen shots gave me the impression that some games are console version from NES, SNES, etc... However Im glad to report that the games are arcade versions. Each game looks wonderful and comes with history info, unlockable art, tips, cast, and music. You can adjust the screen, difficulty, etc.... These games really test your reflexes.

Here are the arcade machines:

1942, 1943, and 1943 Kai. A vertical shooter. You shoot up Japanese WW2 planes, ships, etc... Great game(s).

Bionic Commando: A horizontal platformer. You swing across trees and kill enemies. So so game.

Commando: A popular vertical shooter. You are a charging marine. Great game.

Exed Exes: One of many excess shooters found in this collection. Okay game.

Final Fight: A super popular horizontal brawler. Great game. Similar to Streets of Rage.

Forgotten Worlds: A horizontal shooter. Futuristic, ancient and zany. Awesome background theme and graphic. You can buy weapons from a pretty blonde chick too. Superb game.

Ghosts 'n Goblins: A horizontal platformer. Cool medieval theme and monster design. Great game. BTW Recently I checked out an original Ghosts 'n Goblins arcade machine at an old pier amusement place, its made by Taito, lol and the graphic is hideous compare to the Capcom version on this disc.

Ghouls 'n Ghosts: A later version of the former. Great game.

Gun.Smoke: A vertical shooter. You are a cowboy in the old wild wild west. Great game. Excellent new button system.

Legendary Wings: A mythological vertical shooter. You have flying wings, cool Greek setting. Great game.

Mercs: Similar to Commando. Okay game.

Pirate Ship Higemaru: I never seen this at arcades. Horrible game.

Section Z: A futuristic horizontal shooter with 'metroidish' levels. Good game.

Son Son: A horizontal half platform half shooter. Simple but decent game.

Street Fighter II, SFII Champion Edition, and SFII Hyper Fighting: Biggest game ever from Capcom. Great fighter game. There is a two to three seconds of loading time between matches, its rather annoying.

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts: Third game of the series. Insane difficulty just like last two. Great game.

Trojan: Horizontal brawler. Metro ghetto setting. Great game.

Vulgus: Another vertical futuristic shooter. So so game.

Overall this is a MUST BUY for all REAL gamers. I urge younger generation games to give this a try. Thanks a zillion Capcom for making this game!

5.0 out of 5 stars More Old School Classics that We Children of the 80's Just LOVE!, October 16, 2005
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Capcom Classics Collection (Video Game)
Here is another great compilation of more old arcade coin-op games playable on the Xbox. For a mere $19.99 you can enjoy these 22 classic games at home, in their original arcade-perfect versions! The games presented here range from 1984 to 1992. For me, "Final Fight" was worth the price of admission all by itself, as I had not played this version since it left the arcades around 1992 or so. Ever since then I was stuck with the heavily censored SNES version, until now. The Super Nintendo version was missing an entire level called "Industrial Area" and also didn't even have Guy as a playable character! The sound effects were altered too, as well as some of the food items (beer and whiskey) and enemies (no women seemed to be allowed). But it's all here now in this version, so that finally makes up for it. The other games presented here include several variations of the "Street Fighter II" and "Ghouls and Ghosts" titles, as well as some other most likely forgotten games that Capcom must have REALLY had to dig deep in the archives to find. They are all worth playing, though.

As a previous reviewer pointed out, these games are most likely NOT for the teenagers of today. Most of them are too young to remember or weren't even BORN yet when most of these games were gracing the arcades. The kids today would undoubtedly regard these games as "dumb" or something. I just have to shake my head in mild wonder when I see kids look at "Namco Museum 50th Anniversary" and yawn with boredom over "Pac-Man" and "Ms. Pac-Man" presented there. Not having suffered through the days of the Atari 2600 like myself, they just can't appreciate having these classics in original arcade versions at home like I can. But for those of us who remember them and enjoyed playing them back in the day, this CD will undoubtedly provide you with some very fun nostalgic entertainment.

One tiny complaint that I feel like mentioning is the absence of a little-known gem (for me, anyway) from 1987 called "Tiger Road." I was hoping it was buried in here somewhere, but it is nowhere to be found. But, since Capcom calls this "Volume 1" I will cling to the hope that more compilations will follow and it might be included there. A future CD will most likely include the also omitted "Super Street Fighter II." Until then, I hope you all enjoy this first edition as much as I certainly will!

3.0 out of 5 stars A so-so collection of games, October 7, 2005

= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Capcom Classics Collection (Video Game)
I'm old enough to remember when most of these games came out, so I was excited to see how well they ported over to x-box.

THE GOOD:
This collection has a number of great classics such as street fighter II, 1942, Final Fight, and ghosts and goblins. It also includes variations of those classics which were also released (1943, SFII Hyper edition, and Ghouls and Ghosts). Besides these games - which really can be called classics - the collection includes some other games which were fun, but nothing special - Mercs, Commando, Trojan, and Gunsmoke for example. These were games worth playing, but easily forgetable. This collection also has an option to clean up the graphics and sounds on some of the games, so you can play the original in a slightly tweaked version. Of course, you can play with the original game version if you're a purist. There is also an option to read a brief snippit of history for each game.

THE BAD
For the most part, what you see is what you get. With next gen-counsels coming out soon; these games look more and more obsolete. The only beef I had with the porting was with Street Fighter. The game load times is ridiculously long for a game that's almost 15 years old now. The controls also feel sluggish unresponsive, not at all like the original controls for SFII.

THE UGLY
This collection contains "classics" that no one in America remembers. "Son Son", a side-scrolling shooter that came out in the early eighties is just one example. It also contains such throw-aways as Vulgus, Pirate Ship Higaru, and Exed Exes. These games lacked any innovation and were better off forgotten.

For $20 or so, this game is a fun distraction from the otherwise stagnant video game market. The games are fun to pick up and play for a few minutes, but they are all beatable or boring after twenty minutes or so. If you're hankerin' for some old school video games, this is a pretty good package. If you're too young to remember any of these - you probably won't like the collection.

Exactly what the title says...a collection of classics. And who doesn't love a good classic every once in a while?

This collection of games made for a modern XBOX is a dream come true, allowing you to access all of the games you used to love back in the day but without the difficulty of finding them or trying to get them to play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty decent game would recommend., May 8, 2009

This review is from: Capcom Classics Collection (Video Game)
To be honest I bought this game mainly for Final Fight. I was unfamiliar with alot of the other games aside from Gun smoke, Final Fight and The Street Fighter games that are included. But there really isn't a bad game in the bunch. I'm becoming a fan of these compellation titles as there is a great more variety (obviously.) then there is on single game disk.

3.0 out of 5 stars Classics from the 80's and early 90's, October 29, 2005
By
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Capcom Classics Collection (Video Game)
This compilation from Capcom contains no less than 22 games some great some good and some just forgettable. I like the fact that they include a file for each game that contains artwork tips and music and cast profiles (some of this is only accessable after meeting certain tasks) Ok on to the games

THE GREAT

1942 1943 and 1943 KAI (KAI is an updated version of 1943 eaxh game puts you in the pilots seat during WWII

FINAL FIGHT before Street Fighter there was Final Fight uncensored I think (well compared to the SNES version) Great beat em up

Ghosts n Goblins the first game in series of 3 where you play as the brave Sir Arthur

Forgotten Worlds A great shooter I had this on the megasrive (Genesis in the US) I have forgotten how hard this one is

Ghouls N Ghosts sequel to Ghosts N Goblins

Super Ghouls N Ghosts an updated version of the original GnG (I tihnk memory is a bit hazy)

SF II World Warrior Champion Editon and Hyper Fighting These games put Capcom on the map in the 90's and is the grand daddy of ALL fighting games.

The Good

Bionic Commando

Commando

Mercs

The Down right Forgettable

Everything else on the disc (maybe thats just me though) I dodn't really care for the rest of the games selection. For 20 bucks you get quite a bit but I wish I had rented this first (I have already beaten Final Fight twice since getting this today) Some of these games are really showing there age though and will unfortunatly look even more rediculous once the next gen of consoles arrive. I can only recommend this as a rental for others I'm pretty sure I'll be trading this one in soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nogstalgia is good for some playing once a year, but that's it., November 4, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Capcom Classics Collection (Video Game)
This is a compilation of Capcom arcade games. I was pretty disappointed when I discovered it's not the home games like I grew up with this. These are just the arcade games and having Nintendo ports of Commando and Bionic Commando would have been great. This compilation might contain $5,000 worth of quarter eating fun (like the box says), but not even the online leader boards will keep you coming back for more than nostalgia. A lot of the games feel very stale and clunky by today's standards.

1942 - A top down arcade shooter, blow up planes, its a classic, but feels clunky now.

1943: The Battle of Midway - Same as 1942, only one year later. Its a top down shooter and the challenge has been amped up.

1943 Kai - A special Japanese version of 1943 for the people that love their insane difficulty.

Bionic Commando - I was very disappointed to see this wasn't the NES version. Its 6 levels of bionic arm swinging fun though. About 30 minutes of fun.

Commando - It is not the NES version and provides some nice challenge, but far less secrets. The arcade version just seems dull.

Exed Exes - Another overhead shooter.

Final Fight - A great beat-em up game! Well worth paying for this compilation. It does get tedious by today's standards.

Forgotten Worlds - A great horizontal shooter that is well worth playing once a year!

Ghosts 'n Goblins - This side scrolling Knight vs demonic army is challenging fun, frustratingly challenging fun! Again, its still fun!

Ghouls 'n Ghosts - The sequil to the previous game, but I feel like the weapons are worse.

Gun.Smoke - Basically its Commando version 2.0. The controls feel clunky.

Legendary Wings - Some say this is a legendary good game, but quite honestly even with its variety of top down shooter and platforming, it feels difficult, like too difficult and not fun.

Mercs - A fun version of Commando 10 years later, blowing things up from a top down view has never been more fun.

Pirate Ship Higemaru - skip it

Section Z - A side scrolling shooter that has new tweaks like shooting in 360 degrees.

SonSon - skip it

Street Fighter II - Same as the arcade! Slow and clunky. This is a fighter vs fighter game with 8 characters to play that we all know and love. Ryu, Ken, Blanka, Chun Li, Dahlsim, Zangief, Honda and Guile.

Street Fighter II': Champion Edition - Same as the arcade again!

Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting - Same as the arcade V3! Only faster!

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts - A great game, same as Ghouls and Ghosts, only more challenge, more weapons, more armor, more enemies, more of everything great about the game!

Trojan - A side scroller without platforms, it feels kind of clunky, but its a good game if you can follow the patterns.

Vulgus - skip it

5.0 out of 5 stars Old skool gaming at it's finest, January 20, 2006

I like old arcade games, though i'm too young to fully appreciate them, and i feel this puts the best (aside from a few unneeded ones) of the arcade expierence without having to go back to the crowded area and wait hours on end to play one game. That's one thing i'm glad i didn't have go through. Okay, anyway, this game has 22 arcade(and most of you should appreciate them) games, some of which are very similar to one another. This is why some might not be needed, in the case of exed exes:this game was well, how dyou put? oh that's right! Lacking anything at all to put it ahead at the time. AKA:waste of time. and when i tried to lay this game the music(oh how i hate the music-the same, other, and over, and over-excluding boss levels but in the main game.)

Now moving on to the next notneeded game on here:pirate ship higemaru. I don't say something is a tad bad until many plays. And aftermany plays(well actually i could tell after just one play). The game is no fun and you quickly(well i did anyway)quit and play one of the other FUN games.

The rest of the games are either a GOOD or GREAT game but it's obvious that this collection to come out in a while. Capcom has, will, and if the arcade ever come s back to it's original form(which i highly doubt considering all the home consoles and next gen consoles=arcades are dead)continue to be the expert in the arcade.
