Amazon.co.uk Review

With a title like Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO, this can be nothing more or less than an old-school, two-dimensional Capcom beat-'em-up. Love it or hate it, this is just the ticket for hard-core fighting fans. And boy, is this hard-core. Capcom is the company responsible for Street Fighter, and is the most famous Japanese developer of 2-D beat-'em-ups. SNK, on the other hand, is so old school it went bust in 2001.

Anyone who’s ever played a beat-'em-up will know the basic rules of the genre--hit your opponent until they fall down--but Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO adds additional options that will keep fans happy for months. There are six different fighting styles (or grooves), a terribly complex ratio system for choosing a team of up to three fighters (although oddly there’s no tag option), and a veritable feast of minor options and game modes.

Basically, if you like this sort of thing, you’ll absolutely love Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO--except there’s a rather big "but" coming up. As you may have noticed, the GameCube’s controller isn’t really very well suited to this sort of game, so Capcom has created a rather odd alternative control system that puts all the special moves within easy reach on the C-stick. Hard-core fans are likely to upchuck at the very thought, but it is relatively playable in a shallow, Mortal Kombat kind of way. The normal six-button control method is still included, but it really only works if you can use a proper arcade-style joystick with it. --David Jenkins

Product Description

Capcom VS SNK 2 is composed almost entirely of classic Street Fighter and SNK fighting techniques, which means lots of charge moves, half and quarter circles, and super moves. What's new to the game are the different "grooves," or fighting styles. Although the "Capcom" and "SNK" grooves were introduced in a previous game, Capcom VS SNK 2 takes this concept a step further by introducing six different grooves: C, A, P, S, N, and K. Depending on which groove you choose, the type and number of fighting techniques you have available changes, with half of the grooves leaning towards traditional Capcom fighting and the other half leaning towards SNK-styled battle. The difference between the two fighting styles is mainly the availability of certain non-lethal moves such as air blocks, dodging, and rolling, with each groove having its own balanced mixture of the said moves.

For a 2D fighter on the gamecube which nintendo didnt really make a good controller to play 2D fighters is actually pretty good. its simple and i can do like twenty fireballs in a row with the easy controls. since this game is so low priced, i say its worth it and its fun. so many characters, its crazy so there arent going to be good endings. basically, it leaves each character in suspense for another but there is some STORY. like playing Ryu gets a new character because hes changing or something like that.

HOw many of you were crying for a 2d fighter on the n64. Now capcom finally bring a great 2d fighter to a nintendo console and most of you complain. Anybody that loved streetfighter on Super nintendo will love this game. Has about 90% of the street fighter characters and tons of new charachters from the SNK universe for you to try.. You can play VS. mode for hours and hours with your friend. For only $20 this game is a steal!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun, October 29, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO (Video Game)
I picked this game up over the weekend because I was looking for a game to hold me over until Smackdown Vs. Raw comes out. I had always wanted to try this version of the Capcom Vs. SNK games but had never had the chance to do so. I was pretty ecstatic when I did find it because growing up I played a lot of Street Fighter on the SNES and Genesis and Capcom Vs. Snk and Marvel VS. Capcom a lot on the Dreamcast.

There are a lot of fighters to choose from so you will not be disappointed on that front. You get Arcade Mode, Training Mode, Replay Mode, Sruvival Mode, Vs. Mode and a Color Edit Mode where you can change the colors of your characters and a few other options.

Overall I rate this game a 9 because with the staggering amount of characters its going to take a while to master each one if you are a fan of 2d fighting. The music is pretty cool too. Graphics you can see in the pictures on the site and for the most part they look pretty sweet. The animations look well. I have seen a lot of complaints about the controls for this game and I have not had a problem with them. I guess its best to say its a design flaw with the D - Pad on the GC controller which works good for doing your special attacks but for once I actually prefer the analog stick.

If you have friends this is a great game to pick up as in any fighting game the multiplayer is what makes it the best. I can easily say if you have friends you could spend a countless amount of hours on this game and I highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of the following. 2D fighting games,Street Fighter, King of Fighters and pure fun.
