Capcom vs. SNK 2, 2D fighting at it's best,
By
This review is from: Capcom vs SNK 2 (Video Game)
One of the best 2D fighting games ever finally comes to the Playstation 2. Capcom vs. SNK 2 is the sequel to another great fighting game, with more characters, grooves and much more. All the characters from the first game are back plus the addition Rock Howard, Joe Higashi, Haohmaru, Kyosuke, Dan, Eagle, Maki etc. and the evil versions of certain characters ( Evil Ryu, Blood Iori, Shin Akuma and Ultimate Rugal). The graphics are excellent and control is top notch. The backgrounds are 3D and very nice and a few characters make cameo appearances ( The London Stage has Billy Kane from Fatal Fury and Dudley from Street Fighter 3). There are also pre-fight intros with certain characters just before each fight ( Joe vs. Mai, Kim vs. Chang, Hibiki vs. Rolento pus many more). Any who is a fan of the Street Fighter and King Of Fighters series will absolutely love this game. Hopefully when they make Capcom vs. SNK 3 they'll add whole bunch of new characters like Batsu, Roy and Daigo from Rival Schools, Genjuro, Sieger and Basara from Samurai Shodown, Haggar from Final Fight, Andy B., Wolfgang K. from Fatal Fury and a whole lot more.

As some of you might know Capcom's previous installment in this series left more to be desired. There could of been more characters, better balance in the ratios between them, updated graphics(some sprites were ripped straight out of games a few years old). Well, I'm happy to say that Capcom has learned from this and made and excellent game in the sequal, Capcom Vs. SNK 2.The first thing you will notice when you boot this game up is the vast amount of characters. 46 brutal brawlers from the start + 2 hidden characters you must unlock. Characters sorely missed from the first installment have been popped into this game. Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown, Hibiki from Last Blade 2 and many others. A huge list split evenly between Capcom and SNK. Can't go wrong. The Graphics have had a nice overhaul. Sprites are more detailed and contain more animation(Very thankful for this, as some of the SNK characters seemed choppy compared to Capcoms fighters). The graphics are completely in 3D now(ala Marvel Vs. Capcom 2) and are absolutely brilliant. All these improvements are nice and all, but what about Gameplay? Rest assured, the gameplay has been vastly improved as well. The old ratio system has been dropped in favor of giving whichever character you like their own ratio. There are 3 forms in the Arcade mode, Ratio(self explanitory), 3 on 3(SNK) and 1 on 1(Capcom). There are now a total of 6 grooves to choose from, each changing the way you will have to play the game quite a bit. 3 from Capcom and 3 from SNK. This alone keeps the game challenging and gives it some more replay value. Overall Capcom Vs. SNK 2 is a terrific fighter which should be warmly welcomed into any fighter fan's gaming library. Even if you're not really into fighting games this is one you should still check out - give it a rent. It was a sad day when SNK closed it's doors to all it's wonderful fighting franchises, but we can thank Capcom for letting us play as these characters once again in an awesome and memorable fighter. Purchase ASAP.

I've been waiting for this game for quite a while and it's almost finally here. Capcom Vs SNK 2 lets you play as some of the most famous fighters from both of these companies' fighting games (mostly Street Fighter and King of Fighters). I've been doing quite a bit of research on this game and let me tell you IT LOOKS GREAT, the only problem I found was that some of the characters, especially Morrigan, look really outdated. There really is little consistency between the look of the several fighters. The backgrounds on the other hand look spectacular.Gameplay-wise, the game is a big improvement over the original Capcom vs SNK. The new ratio system lets you assign ratios to the different fighter instead of having fixed values for each character. This lets you make teams with any characters you want. Also there are now 6 different grooves instead of just 2. I won't get into the details of the different grooves but having 6 unique ways of playing a character adds greatly to the replay value. The number of characters in this game is also amazing, there are 44 characters (22 from each side) and 4 hidden ones (or so I've heard; Evil Ryu, Blood Riot Iori, Shin Akuma and God Rugal). Since I'm not really a King of Fighters fan this game gives me 20-something new fighters to play with. People who are familiar with both of these companies fighting games might not find as much novelty in the game as I will but there are still some interesting new characters. From Capcom you get Eagle, Kyosuke, Maki, Yun and Dan. From SNK Haohmaru, Hibiki, Athena, Joe, Chang and Choi, Todo and Rock Howard. I would definitely recommend this game to any fighting game fan. Even if you have already played the original Capcom Vs SNK to death, I think you will find some new stuff in this game to keep you hooked for another couple of months. This game will definitely keep me busy until Tekken 4 and Virtua Fighter 4 hit the PS2.
