Catboats Covered,
By
This review is from: Cape Cod Catboats (Hardcover)
Stan Grayson's book Cape Cod Catboats is a comprehensive study of these beautiful and historically important American boats. Bear in mind, this book is geared more toward the enthusiast than the scholar. Thus, it's scope is somewhat limited. Mr. Grayson presents numerous theories surrounding the developement of the catboat style sailboats. He details the evolution of catboats from the early 19th century designs up to and through todays modern fiberglass versions of this craft. The author includes histories of some of the the early specialist builders such as Crosby, Hanley, Pease, Swartz Roberts, Herreshoff etc. He also presents reviews of some of the new and used boats likely to be found on the market today. The book contains countless drawings, vintage photographs, and color plates. For any sailors who find themselves drawn to these charming and shapely boats I highly recommend this book as an addition to your nautical library.

Sailing Ships of New England,
By Bob Fitzsimmons (New York City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cape Cod Catboats (Hardcover)
This book has a lot of great information about catboats, but it's a little narrow in its scope. If you're curious about other ships that originated in this part of the country, check out Sailing Ships of New England. It's full of wonderful illustrations, and gives you a great historical perspective.
