Book Description

June 1, 1995
The spine-tingling public radio series continues with more full-length thrillers from award-winning writer/producer/director Steven Thomas Oney. Volume V features three mind-boggling mysteries for Captain Underhill: In "The Whereabouts of Heidi McKnown," the kidnapped child of a lottery couple is not heard from for years until a psychic from Budapest shows up claiming contact with the Beyond. Captain Underhill enters the case—and enters a séance—to discover the whereabouts of the missing child. "The Curse of the Whale's Tooth" is a classic gothic mystery involving the reawakening of an ancient family curse dating back to the whaling days of New Bedford.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

STEVEN THOMAS ONEY, creator, writer, and Edgar Award-winning producer of Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater, is reviving the "lost art" of radio drama. He has earned accolades from the International Radio Festival and grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowment for the Arts. He lives on Cape Cod.

From AudioFile

If Jessica Fletcher of "Murder, She Wrote" really existed, she'd be writing for writer-producer Steven Oney and his Cape Cod Mystery Theater. The scripts benefit from Oney's literate writing but suffer from it, too--the three stories are derivative and clichŽ-ridden. His direction is taut and suspenseful. Whatever the cast lacks in resonance and technique, they make up for in spirit and commitment. This is contemporary radio drama that sounds much like Golden Age radio drama--accessible and entertaining listening. Y.R. Winner of AUDIOFILE's Earphones Award (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
