Book Description

June 1, 2010
After being the backdrop for 1948's critically acclaimed tragic romance, Cape Seduction, Northern California's Dragon Rock Lighthouse sat shuttered and abandoned for decades-and it also happened to be the last place up-and-coming Hollywood starlet Darla Foster was seen alive. When photojournalist Rebecca Burke locks horns with Los Angeles attorney Matt Farralone while trying to gain access to the derelict off-shore beacon, she encounters the spirit of the sassy, once-promising Oscar-hopeful Foster, and uncovers a 60-year-old secret that sets her world on end.

About the Author

Anne Carter feels like a Southern California native since she's lived there all but two years of her life. Anne, who also writes under the name Pam Ripling, started her writing career as a short story author and poet. She later found success in full length fiction and has authored a series of paranormal romantic mysteries set in California lighthouses, among them POINT SURRENDER and CAPE SEDUCTION. Her regional short story mystery, "Just Like Jay," appears in MURDER IN LA LA LAND, 2010 anthology published by Sisters in Crime Los Angeles. Anne lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three children, and says she wouldn't live anywhere else. Visit her at http://www.BeaconStreetBooks.com.

More About the Author

Creating fiction gives one the power to design other lives, filled with romance and adventure, intrigue and passion. My own writing career began in middle school creative writing class, inspiring me to later major in literature. All it took was one teacher' encouragement and I was on my way.

Always a big fan of the motion picture, I began "seeing" movies in my head and ultimately succumbed to the nagging voice telling me to write them down. After gaining publishing credits in the prestigious periodical THEMA Literary Journal and PEACE Magazine, my short stories became novellas and then novels. Women's romantic fiction came naturally for me, and in between books I ventured into teen problem stories and eventually wrote LOCKER SHOCK! (Quake Press, 01/2008,) a middle grade reader about a boy and an unwanted gun.

As for the personal stuff, I'm a Virgo, a procrastinator, like warm better than cold and drink neither Coke nor Pepsi. I was born in the Midwest but migrated to California at the ripe old age of 2. My hobbies include doll collecting, photo restoration and writing, of course. My favorite sport is ice hockey, my favorite TV shows were LOST, Flash Forward and Gray's Anatomy (only one of which has survived) although I don't watch the tube much. I am married to my hero of 30 years and have 3 sinfully excellent children.

As a free-lance writer, I hang out at my website (BeaconStreetBooks dot com, where I also blog), Facebook, and publish a sporadic digital newsletter.

I am also a lighthouse fanatic, and I guess it was only a matter of time before my obsessions collided and I wrote my first paranormal romantic lighthouse mystery, POINT SURRENDER. I actually spent days (and nights) holed up alone inside of a lighthouse while writing that book. What a trip that was!

As a writer, my biggest obstacle is allocating enough time to write, edit and market my books while trying to run my business and raise my children. Squeezing extra minutes out of a stubborn timepiece is a challenge all writers must face. Next up for me? My second paranormal romantic lighthouse mystery, CAPE SEDUCTION is now out, and if I can I can find those extra minutes, I'm planning a third and final lighthouse book, tentatively title ANGEL'S GATE.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Suspenseful Page Turner! March 21, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was my first Anne Carter novel but it won't be my last. I ordered Cape Seduction on my Kindle based on the blurb and the great reviews it has already garnered, and I was not disappointed one bit. Romance, a lighthouse, suspense, a California setting, a double story, the golden years of Hollywood, and ghosts...this book has everything. I could not stop reading. Two stories are told in alternating chapters. Rebecca and Matt's story is told in present day and Darla and Jordan's story takes place in the 1940s. The author does a fantastic job of keeping the suspense going and both stories mutually interesting. The ending is satisfying for both romance and mystery readers. The only negative comment I have is that the book needed an editor. As a multi-published romance author myself, I am highly sensitive to head hopping and POV issues, of which there were a few in this book. There were also some misspelled words and punctuation errors throughout, but fortunately these editing problems did not take away from my enjoyment of the well-told story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Mystery, Good Romance January 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was my first Anne Carter book, and I really liked it. The setting of the lighthouse and the quiet little seaside town is both romantic and mysterious, and I enjoyed the way the mystery played out. The characters were easy to see as flesh-and-blood people, good without being cloying and bad without being pathological. I'd definitely read another of this author's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read for Mystery Lovers September 23, 2010

If you love mysteries, romance and lighthouses this is the book for you. I thoroughly enjoyed Cape Seduction from the first page to the last. It was a real page turner and kept me coming back for more.

I love the way the author has researched her topic and brings in lots of references to old movies and lighthouses. It is clear that she knows her subject and has a talent for weaving it into a very interesting story.

Anne Carters first lighthouse mystery, Point Surrender was great so I was really looking forward to Cape Seduction and I was not disappointed. I would highly recommend this book!
