Suspenseful, exhilarating and sexy. From Cape Town with Love will leave you on the edge of your seat as once again Tennyson Hardwick has found himself in another mess. This page turner will have you holding your breathe as the intoxicating actor/bodyguard Ten deals with love, family, work and his own mortality.

If ever there was a book made for the big screen, this is it. The trio of authors do an excellent job helping us to visualize the beauty of South Africa, experience the roller coaster of emotions from the characters all while reminding us that everyone is vulnerable. Although reading Casanegra and In the Night of the Heat is not required, I strongly encourage doing so in order to fully appreciate the authors development of the characters.

It has been a pleasure taking these adventures with Tennyson Hardwick and I look forward to more.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just keeps getting better!!, May 15, 2010
By
This review is from: From Cape Town with Love (Hardcover)
It has been said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Someone clearly has never told Tennyson Hardwick this because from the moment he steps foot on the soil of South Africa -- majestic, beautiful and the place where the rich and famous pay mighty to get as close to God's beauty on earth as possible -- the hero we all love to love finds out just where his good intentions take him. He's there to win back the love of his life, the only woman who managed to tame the heart of the gigolo turned actor turned private detective. It's the latter that drove April away after she watched him solve two high-profile Hollywood murders while at the same time barely escaping with his own life.

So instead of just licking the wounds of his broken heart and falling into the first bed he could find, which is easy when you are a man like Ten, he heads to South Africa on a mission to get his girl. But soon into the trip, he finds himself guarding a Hollywood A-list actress when she visits an orphanage to adopt an African child.

That successful trip puts him on the speed dial of superstar Sofia Maitlin and garners him another gig serving as a bodyguard at her adopted daughter's birthday party. It was supposed to be an easy day, guarding a pampered American princess who was being celebrated by Hollywood royalty. But like Tennyson always finds out, good intentions lead to no where but hell.

Next comes a kidnapping that puts Ten right in the middle of a web of lies, espionage, danger and uncertainty that only he can escape. And, this time he has someone else who needs him more, a beautiful little girl's life hangs in the balance.

If you thought Casanegra was good and In the Night of the Heat was better, than not picking up From Cape Town with Love is not even an option. Join Ten on his latest case, where he falls back on what he knows and teams up with a mystery woman from his past that is supposed to help him with what he doesn't know. Don't skip a page because you are going to want to be there for every single word. After all, it just keeps getting better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tennyson Hardwick does it again!, May 14, 2010

If you enjoyed the first Tennyson Hardwick novels, then this one is sure to be an additional treat! A continuation of the surperb story telling about this amazing yet slightly troubled man, and his ability to get pulled into the oddest situations. Starting in Capetown South Africa, the latest Tennyson adventure takes you from Africa to Hollywood, touching on plenty but missing nothing. I highly recommend this latest installment in the series, and I applaud Tananarive Due and Blair Underwood for creating this series (which I absolutely LOVE). Oh yes - the cover of the book is also worth its weight in GOLD (Blair Underwood is HOT!)

Enjoy!

I was a big fan of "Casanegra." I bought it based on the abstract while in the book store before the Kindle version was available and enjoyed it. I bought "In The Heat of the Night" the same way, but I was not as taken with it as "Casanegra."

Cape Town is ambitious in concept, but for some reason the flow of the book is not nearly as smooth and captivating as Casanegra. You typically look to find progress and growth in a character and this book seemed much more like a first effort than the third installment. I did appreciate where the story was trying to go, but it never picked up interest or steam for me in any aspect. It started slow and pretty much stayed there.

I will continue to support the series because I find Tennyson to be an entertaining protagonist, but unlike Casanegra, I can't recommend the book to people who aren't familiar with the character. If someone is familiar with the story-line I would give them a fair warning, but overall the book is flat and below the standard that I've come to expect from the series. Better luck on the next go-round...

2.0 out of 5 stars No Love For From Cape Town..., August 31, 2010
To say the least, I was very disappointed in this installment of the Tennyson Hardwick series. In the previous two books, Tennyson's character though flawed, was admirable as he struggled through the "growing up" process. In this installment Tennyson regressed into a made for t.v. caricature of Jason Bourne. I understand the goal the authors always had for Ten to be on the big screen, and wish them will with that endeavor, but I hate the richness of Ten's character had to be sacrificed. Honestly, I preferred the original Tennyson Hardwick as opposed to the next James Bond wannabe. My support of the series will continue with hopes of seeing the depth in plot and character found in "Casanegra".

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery and suspense...and a flawed hero, July 29, 2010
This review is from: From Cape Town with Love (Hardcover)
This was much more than a story about a kidnapping. It brought me into the worlds of South Africa, Hollywood celebrity, mysterious government agencies, and it was an entertaining glimpse into the life of a flawed but brave hero. Ten has a lot going for him: looks, a semi-successful acting career, a loving family, and a strong left hook. But he doesn't cross over into the world of the unbelievable hero because he makes mistakes in love and in his detective work. This makes him more likeable in my eye, and I found myself glued to the pages to see if everything turned out the way it was supposed to. The writing was smooth and fast-paced, and there were many times I laughed out loud. Despite some of the similarities to Walter Mosley's Easy Rawlins character, the character and the novel remained original in other important ways. I haven't red the first two books in the Tennyson Hardwick series, but I definitely will now. And I look forward to the next novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars From Cape Town with Love, July 25, 2010
This review is from: From Cape Town with Love (Hardcover)
I hope Tennyson does not take this the wrong way, but..."From Cape Town with Love" is by far the best of the series about him. Trust Casanegra and In the Night of the Heat gave you an introduction to the former gigolo turned actor turned mastermind "detective". But this latest journey is indeed unforgettable on so many levels. Here we get to see the depths of Tennyson as a human being with a heart...not too much insight though; why take the thrill that we are so use to seeing? And Tennyson delivers again...and again...and again...to the delight of readers. Blair Underwood, Tananarive Due and Steven Barnes are the hottest literary trio on the planet and to not make a motion picture series out of these novels would be a crime of stupidity. Eye candy? Check. Intense Sexuality? Check. Suspense and Action? Check and Check again. The Tennyson Hardwick novels have drawn me back to one of my loves...the suave, unpredictable hero who goes through all means of danger to get what he wants. Tennyson delivers what he promises. And you can't help but thank him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Plesantly surprised..., July 23, 2010
This review is from: From Cape Town with Love (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
OK, true story (for those who care). I have avoided this series because of one reason. Blair Underwood. Not that I dislike him or anything but my prejudice was, "ANOTHER actor writing a book"?! When I saw it as a Vine choice I thought what could I lose, it's free! Now that I've read it I feel soooooo bad. This book was much, much better than I thought, and as an avid book lover I should have known better than to let me crazy prejudices get in the way. I will say that you need to read the first two books first though. I'm notorious for not reading books in order because you can usually figure out the back story especially if the author is good. The authors in this book are good, but you really need to start from book #1. I didn't but I still had a great time with this one. So now it's off to my local bookstore to order/buy the first two. Lesson learned!

I've read all of the Tennyson Hardwick novels and this by far is the best!!! The story kept me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. This literary trio keep bringing stories that have me wanting more. I can't wait for the next installation or maybe the possibility of seeing them on film. All I can say is "I've whipped out my sunglasses!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story, July 7, 2010
This review is from: From Cape Town with Love (Hardcover)
I truly enjoyed this book. I had to put it down a couple of times because I wasn't ready for some of the encounters between Ten and other characters (I also cover my eyes when viewing movies). The story kept me engaged and I was up past bedtime reading. If you haven't read it yet I suggest you do.
