French Without Tears,
By
This review is from: Capetians: Kings of France, 987-1330 (Hardcover)
This is a a fascinating book, both in its subject material and in the style in which it's presented.France took much longer to form as a nation than, say, England, and the pioneer kings after Charlemagne's departure had to work against formidable obstacles. The progress of the country of France depended on each monarch, some much more forward-looking than others, some less successful, so the format of the book in treating them individually was quite important. The author is obviously in love with his subject and the reader senses that from the beginning. This is the story of the beginning of modern France and it's an exciting read. Curtis Stotlar

Author didn't even tried to give some general History of France for 400 years. He simply counted Kings and provided each one with description you can find in Wikipediya. You can use it as a reference when you want to go to the nearest library and find something which give you full details of the fight between Phillip Augustus and Richard Cour de Lion
