Love the shoe, hate that pink strap!, March 13, 2010
This review is from: Capezio Women's 456 Academy Character Shoe (Apparel)
I ordered my regular shoe size, the rather uncommon 10.5W, and these shoes were a perfect, comfortable fit right out of the box. My only complaint is that the second time I put these shoes on, one of the straps pulled right out from where it was sewn on. But this isn't really a problem; I knew when I bought them that I would replace those pink straps with black ones. I am an organist, not a dancer, and I bought these shoes for playing the organ pedals. I have never been really satisfied with the fit of the "Organmaster" brand shoes. It takes awhile to break them in, and the leather tends to stretch out too much, making for a sloppy fit which affects my pedal technique. I won't have this problem with these shoes since they have a fabric upper. And as someone who is interested in minimizing the use of animal products, I like the fact that these shoes are mostly man-made.

It's ok, August 5, 2010

This was the first dance shoe I ever bought. I bought it half a size larger than my 'street shoe' size, and it fit very well. The suede sole is simply suede glued to the botton of a regular hard sole. I didn't realize that. I was afraid there wouldn't be any support, but this is just like a regular canvas pump with a strip of suede (in the shape of the shoe bottom) glued to the bottom of the shoe. It is not perfectly balanced, in that when I stand in it, My feet rock forward a bit, causing the heel to come off the floor ever so slightly. When i rock back to make the heel flat, the toe comes up. The heel is very slippery, having a smooth bottom and no tread. I ordered the wide width since I have a very wide foot. To me it looks like a "regular" sized shoe or medium width, but it fit ok. The black canvas upper seems to pick up every fleck of dust and other stuff, and it is hard to brush off. I guess this is because the canvas is a bit rougher. Maybe spraying it with some sort of protectant will help? The pink elastic band is sort of an eye sore. It would be nice if there were options there. I thought about cutting off the elastic band, but I really need it to help keep the shoe on when doing dance moves. A nude color strap would be preferable. There are clear stretchy bands for keeping hats on heads for dance routines that look practically invisible. Why can't they do that for dance shoes too, I wonder?

Terrific, affordable, sensible dance shoe, May 5, 2010
This review is from: Capezio Women's 456 Academy Character Shoe (Apparel)
I just bought a second pair of these for my daughter. She had worn out the first pair after over a year of regular (several hours weekly) use. She wears them for practice, social dancing and performance. The shoes are very comfortable, with a sensible, mid-height heel. The pink strap, while a bit disconcerting at first is, I think, intended to be nearly invisible when the dancer is on stage and viewed from a distance.
