3.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable, but not firm enough
These shoes are mostly for dance classes like ballet. I don't think they are sturdy enough for Zumba dancing or higher impact exercising. However, they are very comfortable and I would wear them for walking but they aren't really made for anything for inside classes. I will try another version of these and give my pair to my sister who takes ballet.

Perhaps the reviewers who rated this product poorly misunderstand the purpose of these shoes. They are made for serious dancers. As such, they are made to fit the foot snug like a girdle and also provide enough flexibility for proper foot movement while performing dance moves. These are great shoes for this purpose and the fit is much snugger than one would expect a "sneaker" to fit. Probably a little strange initially for someone who is buying them for workouts. But much safer than if they fit loosely. This shoe is a huge improvement over the ballet slippers I wore as a child.

These shoes are also excellent for my home yoga/stretching exercises and aerobic/cardio workouts, which are done on a concrete floor with about 3/8" of mat. No problems even with exercises that require a lot of jumping around like my Zumba sessions. I find the workouts much easier on my feet than in my previous cross-trainers. The Freedom's are not in the least bit "flimsy," though they are not formed like regular sneakers/cross-trainers/running shoes. They have split soles which are made of a stiffer material than the neoprene-like body. This sole type enhances foot flexibility while providing protection for landing. Like every other Capezio product I've ever owned, these shoes are made of high quality materials, nothing like you would find in walmart.

Capezio does make a few other dance sneakers which provide a more traditional shoe construction, but still have the split sole for the flexibility needed for dance. These may appeal to more to the people who gave this particular shoe poor reviews.

A couple of side benefits I've noticed from these shoes is that I have almost no arthritis pain in my feet anymore, even after my most aggressive workouts, and my balance while working out is improving significantly.

4.0 out of 5 stars not for serious dancers but good exercise shoe, February 15, 2010

Great for Zumba! I ordered these for Zumba as my running shoes had too much traction and were making my knees hurt. I got a size larger like some of the reviews suggested, but after several weeks' wear, they are stretching out so I would recommend ordering your real size. Not enough lateral support for heavy use but they are a great lightweight mesh shoe with no need for socks.

Feels like I am not wearing a shoe. I compete in fitness and would like to perform barefoot but I dont know how to do that with a little support on those hard surfaces. So I found this shoe. Much more light weight than the cheer shoes I used to buy, but yes, a little less supportive too. I love this shoe to pieces though.

One thing about this one, I have to buy 2 a year, but this depends on how much you use them, and in my case, it is a lot.

I highly recommend this product if you are a dancer, gymnast, or fitness competitor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Versatile Pair of Exercise Shoes, July 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great pair of shoes for various different group fitness classes. I had tried a cheap pair of running shoes for my zumba, kickboxing, step and body toning classes but was having a miserable time because the shoes were very slippery on the basketball court's dusty floor.

The Capezio dance sneaker fits like a glove and had a sole that is versatile enough to go from holding a squat to sliding for a cha-cha. I'm very pleased with how well the shoe goes from each class to the next without a problem.

The only reason this review is four stars is because I had to put in a pair of inserts in order to give my feet enough support to do normal group exercises -- such as jumping jacks or stepping -- comfortably. Without the inserts, even zumba made my feet hurt after an hour. But with a pair of cheap (less than $10) inserts, these shoes have stood up to intense use five days a week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for dance, but not for high impact moves, March 20, 2010

These works well for sliding my feet around in salsa/samba and funk moves during dance workouts in my carpeted area living room, but there is no shock absorbing cushion for higher impacts dance workouts that include high leaps, jumping jacks etc, so after while your legs start hurting. For the price, this was however a great purchase. I just need to invest a little more in a dance shoe to have it meet all my needs. I do recommend these for low impact dance.

Light-weight, flexible and just perfect for dancing/zumba classes. They are true to size and comfortably hug your toes; if you intend to wear medium-weight socks underneath, you may want to order one size up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Zumba!, May 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I read all of the reviews before I bought this shoe. Size is true to size. My knees were bothering me after Zumba. This shoe is great in that it allows quick turns and easy sliding. The shoe feels great on. Traction is a little weak for squats but the tradeoff of easy movement. My knees feel much better. I highly recommend these shoes!
