I have problems with my feet, requiring two surgeries and prescription orthotics for the last 25 years, so the average women's dress shoe is a device invented purely for torture as far as I am concerned. I finally got fed up and threw out everything I owned and bought these. The logic being that if stage performers can wear these for hours at a time, they have to be fairly comfortable, right? While I can't fit my current orthotics in these, they are actually pretty comfortable. I could actually see dancing at the company Christmas party without having to bring "bail-out shoes" in the car. (I still refuse to do the electric slide, though.)

If you wear orthotics, you might be able to fit them in these. I can fit my old ones (which are similar in size to the storebought kind) just fine. But order 1/2 size larger. If not, order your usual size, but err to the next larger 1/2 if you're not sure.

IMPORTANT CAVEAT: These are VERY slippery. The heels are intended to be able to add taps, so they don't have the rubber pad like normal dress shoes would. The front is very smooth leather as well. I will be adding some sort of non-slip devices.

And probably ordering them in another color, too...

I've been looking for a replacement for the Capezio tyette patent black "Mary Jane" tap shoes (no taps) for some time, for playing organ. Didn't like the Organmaster or Tic-tac-toe shoes. These are the closest I've seen and they fit the way the Mary Janes did. One beef -- the heel is too narrow and can slip between the pedals when playing chords. I realize that these are primarily a dance shoe, and I can't speak for dancers, but a lot of female organists rely on dancewear.

I like these shoes for contra dancing. They are very "fast" but not dangerously slippery like suede soles can get on a not-so-clean dance floor. The slide buckle is easier to fasten than the regular type, but stays secure. They also make a great stomping sound! I only wish the soles lasted longer.
