5.0 out of 5 stars Once you start you can't stop
I read this book before and really liked it. Then, one day I was going to let my friend read it so I just wanted to read the character intros so I could remember what it was about. Do you know I had to read the whole book? This is the best Omar Tyree book I have read. You get sucked in from the first page and can't put it down until you are finished. I highly...

5.0 out of 5 stars Capital City was a true to life story., August 30, 1999

Capital City was like a nonfiction novel. It tells the story of so many young black males trying to make money the easy way in the nineties, but the characters in this book find out the hard way that you must earn a living because nothing in life is too easy.

Omar Tyree did it again with capitalcity, it was so good, and funny. The characther shank was my favorite, he was so funny, yet he was also smart. Butterman was the prettyboy in the book, and Wes was the college guy that handle things for butterman. Capital city is the story of drug dealing, and also college life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeping It Real, September 14, 2001

The setting of this book was in Washington, D.C. which is my hometown so I could really relate to the streetlife ordeals that occur to characters in this versatile book. Omar keeps it real with the situations of the drug game and how it affects us. His characters are witty and urban at the same time. This is the most interesting book I've read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow, June 27, 2000
This review is from: Capital City: The Chronicles of a D.C. Underworld (Paperback)
This book was VERY interesting. Once again, Tyree eloquently tells the story of issues that effect the African-American community. The book was a bit preachy, especially when told through the eyes of the character Wes, but the message was good anyway. I thought "Butterman" was very foolish to get caught up in the drug-dealing game, especially since he didn't have to. I was very pleased that things turned out so well for Shank, because he was the character one would think would be least likely to make it out of that lifestyle. I would love to see this book made into a movie. I think Mekhi Phifer would be the perfect guy to play Shank!

What can I say besides I didn't think one person could include so many characters in one book and keep it flowing. Capital City snatched me from my reality and into a whole different world. A must read!

5.0 out of 5 stars 4th Period Ms. Casserly, November 1, 2001

This review is from: Capital City: The Chronicles of a D.C. Underworld (Paperback)
I found the novel Capital City by Omar Tyree to be a very intriguing book. It involved the life aspects of Young African-Americans. Weaknesses of the book were shown at the beginning. When the book first starts, it's dramatically, slow. Omar Tyree starts the book with talking about each of the characters. The bad part about the Capital City was he made it confusing switching characters so often. This made it difficulty for the reader to comprehend each character when the reader is not adapted to all the characters. It is not until the middle of the book where you get to know each individual in depth. The greatest strength of Omar Tyree's book was the ending. He had a powerful finish with the book. The book leaves you with more questions to ask Omar.
Capital City characterization was terrific. Omar Tyree explains each character in its entirety. He allows the reader to have a clear view of each individual in the book. The characters in this book had a one of a kind personality. He did an excellent job in introducing each character to the reader.
Readability in this book was excellent. There was nothing in the book that was too complex to understand. Omar Tyree's vocabulary was extremely easy. Capital City is a wonderful book for young teens.
This book would have a reader's full attention from the middle to end. Capital City is a book that would have you on their toes wondering what was going to happen next. This book was based on a reality basis. The book allows you to relate in a several of ways.
