From the Inside Flap

IS THE FIRST LADY PLOTTING TO OVERTHROW THE PRESIDENT?
This questions seems inconceivable to journalist Jack Rudley, but so did the murder of his own father, Senator William Rudley. Now his father is dead and all roads lead to the White House.  Roads Jack must take if he's ever to know the truth. Roads twisted by deceit, revenge, power and murder.  Roads First Lady Carolyn Alden Lane navigates with great skill.

When she learns she's a pawn in a deadly bid for the White House, her world comes crashing down. Driven by desperation, she refuses to take the fall alone. But how far will she go to even the score? Against all odds, Jack searches for the truth, a truth that may cost him his life, while Carolyn struggles to survive in a web of savage political corruption.

Antrim is an award-winning novelist. CAPITAL OFFENSE received high praise from such authors as Vince Flynn and Lee Child.

As a national correspondent and columnist, she wrote for the San Francisco and Washington, DC Examiner newspapers, NewsMax Magazine, and was featured as a political commentator on KSFO radio and BattleLine. Antrim has appeared on such television shows as Hannity and Colmes.

She worked on Capitol Hill behind the scenes in the United States Senate, while working on the biography of a former Governor and Senator who was running for President.

Her short story "Through a Veil Darkly" is included in the anthology, THRILLER 2, edited by Clive Cussler.

She is at work on her next novel, which is shaping up to to be a big action, adventure, historical thriller. Why the change from Washington DC politics?

"The more I researched history, the more I realized that we're still dealing with the same issues today, that we were dealing with hundreds of years ago. Other than Viagra and Wireless, not much has changed. So, I left political commentary to focus on my career as a thriller writer."

She currently serves on the Board of Directors for International Thriller Writers as a Co-President with author Douglas Preston. She is also on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Writers Conference, the Honorary Board of Directors for Las Positas College, and is a member of Mystery Writers of America, the Authors Guild and the National Press Club.

Customer Reviews

This book is a great, fun read.
Paul R. Witkay, Alliance of Chief Executives
So far, it's just 2,500 pages or so of character development or set-up or something...boring is the word I would use.
K. Archer
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Kathleen Antrim's debut novel depicts a frightening tale of conspiracy in American politics. As an ambitious, but policy-driven prosecutor supports her husband's bid for the presidency, the reader is provided an engrossing tour through the bedrooms and back alleys that lie along the road to the White House. Carolyn Alden Lane endures abuse and infidelity in her effort to achieve a position from which to launch her political agenda. While at the same time, journalist Jack Rudly, faced with deceit, betrayal and multiple murders, is gripped by a mounting paranoia which propels him and the reader to a surprising climax. If you found the suspense and political intrigue of "Evil, Be Gone" titillating, continue the excitement with Antrim's "Capital Offense." - Robert John Estko, author of "Evil, Be Gone"

Since my time is limited, when I do sit down long enough, I tend to favor business books. I have found many of the popular "top selling" books to be entertaining though the story and characters are gone from my mind as soon as I turn the final page.
Capital Offense has changed that thinking. For the first time in many years, I sat down to read a thrilling book that kept me intrigued and awake late into the night, It was a great page-turner that will still be in my memory years from now. Carolyn Lane is fabulous - her style and methodology are the envy of every strategic thinker. It is nice to read a book with STRONG female characters that work well with STRONG male characters.
Great job on a first book, Ms. Antrim. I cannot wait for the next one. I wish you the best of luck. Your talent is evident.

I am an aspiring writer; and, if I achieve HALF the TALENT and SKILL that Kathleen Antrim demonstrates, my own career will be a success!!! I was captivated by the book--it has wonderfully interwoven story-lines (in fact, they are seemless) and sub-text.
I can only imagine that those with deep-seeded personality deficits may find this book unsettling--as the characters are so realistically portrayed in their human flaws and frailty. And, of course, it makes me wonder if I'll ever get to be this accomplished in my own career and life! I guess, in the meanwhile, I'll live vicariously through the wonderful success of Ms. Antrim!!! Kudos from one aspiring writer to one that's demonstrated she has already MADE IT!! (Isn't the taste of success SWEET!!)

I am a retired CEO of a regional bank and an avid reader of books. It has been many many years since I devoted one whole day to reading an entire novel from cover to cover. Your book Capital Offense compelled me to do just that. I literally could not put it down and turned each page with great anticipation of what was to come. Your ability to not only make the reader become involved in the story, but almost to feel as if they were one of the characters is truly exceptional.

I look forward to any of your future novels and hope you accept my thanks for a really exciting day of outstanding reading enjoyment.

I am halfway through this book and I'm wondering when it's going to take off. So many reviewers have called it "fast-paced," a "thriller," etc. I'm finding it plodding and dull. I came here to re-read the reviews to convince myself to keep reading it, that at some point, something interesting will happen. So far, it's just 2,500 pages or so of character development or set-up or something...boring is the word I would use. Now I know why it was $2.99.

This book just went no where fast. I ended up deleting it from my kindle. Even for $2.99 it was a dud.

Capitol Offense does have an intriguing premise. What happens when the grasp for political power causes people to stop at nothing, even murder, to get elected? But this book has too many evil plots that involve so many of it's characters, that it strains believability. I'm tired of the good guy, predictably named "Jack", who fights for the love of the green-eyed, auburned-hair beauty. She spurns him, then accepts him, then ,of course, is integral in helping him bring down the bad guys. No one is ever suspicious of the many deaths and accidents that occur during the politicians rise to power, and the ditsy, helpless electorate swallows whatever line the parties pitch. I found it difficult to finish this book because I really didn't care how it ended.
