5.0 out of 5 stars Takes you into the backrooms of political power brokers

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a dud, but not much in the way of fireworks
I had to struggle with this one, a rare thing for a kindle addict like me. My husband and I often read together and we average 25 e-books a month, but this time he was snoring by page thirty. It is a good thing that at long last there is relatively good instant Joe on the market or I would have joined him. A lack of skill dominates the early part of the story and I am...

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes you into the backrooms of political power brokers, December 22, 2002
This review is from: Capital Offense (Paperback)
Kathleen Antrim's debut novel depicts a frightening tale of conspiracy in American politics. As an ambitious, but policy-driven prosecutor supports her husband's bid for the presidency, the reader is provided an engrossing tour through the bedrooms and back alleys that lie along the road to the White House. Carolyn Alden Lane endures abuse and infidelity in her effort to achieve a position from which to launch her political agenda. While at the same time, journalist Jack Rudly, faced with deceit, betrayal and multiple murders, is gripped by a mounting paranoia which propels him and the reader to a surprising climax. If you found the suspense and political intrigue of "Evil, Be Gone" titillating, continue the excitement with Antrim's "Capital Offense." - Robert John Estko, author of "Evil, Be Gone"

5.0 out of 5 stars Capital Offense, November 29, 2002

This review is from: Capital Offense (Paperback)
Since my time is limited, when I do sit down long enough, I tend to favor business books. I have found many of the popular "top selling" books to be entertaining though the story and characters are gone from my mind as soon as I turn the final page.

Capital Offense has changed that thinking. For the first time in many years, I sat down to read a thrilling book that kept me intrigued and awake late into the night, It was a great page-turner that will still be in my memory years from now. Carolyn Lane is fabulous - her style and methodology are the envy of every strategic thinker. It is nice to read a book with STRONG female characters that work well with STRONG male characters.

Great job on a first book, Ms. Antrim. I cannot wait for the next one. I wish you the best of luck. Your talent is evident.

5.0 out of 5 stars I AM SO JEALOUS!!!, December 1, 2002

This review is from: Capital Offense (Paperback)
I am an aspiring writer; and, if I achieve HALF the TALENT and SKILL that Kathleen Antrim demonstrates, my own career will be a success!!! I was captivated by the book--it has wonderfully interwoven story-lines (in fact, they are seemless) and sub-text.

I can only imagine that those with deep-seeded personality deficits may find this book unsettling--as the characters are so realistically portrayed in their human flaws and frailty. And, of course, it makes me wonder if I'll ever get to be this accomplished in my own career and life! I guess, in the meanwhile, I'll live vicariously through the wonderful success of Ms. Antrim!!! Kudos from one aspiring writer to one that's demonstrated she has already MADE IT!! (Isn't the taste of success SWEET!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Letter to the author, February 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Capital Offense (Paperback)
I am a retired CEO of a regional bank and an avid reader of books. It has been many many years since I devoted one whole day to reading an entire novel from cover to cover. Your book Capital Offense compelled me to do just that. I literally could not put it down and turned each page with great anticipation of what was to come. Your ability to not only make the reader become involved in the story, but almost to feel as if they were one of the characters is truly exceptional.

I look forward to any of your future novels and hope you accept my thanks for a really exciting day of outstanding reading enjoyment.

I gave this book as a gift, and the recipient thought it was such and outstanding literary example of powerful women! Socially relevant, Capital Offense is a feather in the cap of political women everywhere. Senator Hillary Clinton should be honored to have parallels drawn between she and this heroine.

This novel also deals with issues of manipulation of the press, and the dishonest ways in which things can be reported...The way in which this author dealt with the marital and sexual inadequacies of this couple was both outstanding and sensitive.

I loved the clever way the heroine's husband learned the truth!

5.0 out of 5 stars Controversy!, December 8, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Capital Offense (Paperback)
I was really intrigued by the amount of controversy this book is generating--not only by the reviews on Amazon, but I heard about the author's "stalker" on KGO radio and was further motivated to get the book and see what all the fuss was about!!

I thought it was GREAT! And, how appropriate to have someone so invested in trying to sabbotage the work! Actually, it seems quite the compliment! I have to say, the person doing the "stalking" probably has no interest in her own life...sad, really.

Oh, and Ron Turner--your own grammar is quite inadequate. "To sum up: I ..." and "Oh my." It seems your lack of comma use and your lack of understanding of the colon has indicated you, perhaps, have only a high school education...try using your real name, and grow up! Looking forward to seeing you at the club, dear! HAHA!!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: CAPITAL OFFENSE (Kindle Edition)
I had to struggle with this one, a rare thing for a kindle addict like me. My husband and I often read together and we average 25 e-books a month, but this time he was snoring by page thirty. It is a good thing that at long last there is relatively good instant Joe on the market or I would have joined him. A lack of skill dominates the early part of the story and I am surprised that so many reviewers did not see it. It read like a draft of a story with ultimate potential but badly in need of a rewrite, like the draft of my first effort at novel writing that I keep in the box in the closet. The plot is far-fetched, the protagonist is ill-defined, and her behavior is inconsistent. I found the whole thing sophomoric, but then, for some reason I was sufficiently hooked by the storyline to read it to the end and was not disappointed with the ending. I would expect more from this writer, but I would not purchase anything without a free glance at the first chapter or a "Look Inside" feature. Obviously MS Antrim is selling better than I am.The First Marie: and the Queen of Scots

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. It's hard to pinpoint the good and bad characters. It'll keep you guessing until the end.
