"A meticulously researched and elegantly written account by a masterful storyteller. Oshinsky uses this landmark case as a lens through which to view America's long history of state killing. . . . CPoT is a short but sweet review of the capital punishment issue in American law. Actually, there isn't a great deal about the Furman v. Georgia case, specifically; the work is much broader in scope. Even though the focus is on the law, the presentation is accessible to non-lawyers. Not a comprehensive work, to be sure, but CPoT is a good primer on the subject.
