Twenty of his best songs - FERLIN HUSKY - one of the ALL TIME GREATS - of country music!,
This review is from: Collectors Series (Audio CD)
These twenty ORIGINAL Capitol recordings contain: 6 top ten hits, 11 top twenty's and 3 top fourty's.
This set is an all around GREAT collection of Husky's big hits. Having charted 51 singles between 1953 to 1975 clearly this is not an anthology. He had 21 additional top fourty hits, but this collection contains most of the best remember and well love Husky hits available at this time. A key word here is "original" recordings, he has some collections that are re-recorded. Here are some major hits he's remembered for that reached the top ten: 1. "I feel better all over (more then anywhere's else), 1955. 2. "Gone",1957. 3. "A fallin star", 1957. 4. "Wings of a dove", 1960. 5. "Once", 1966. 6. "Just for you", 1967. Ferlin Husky learned to play the guitar from an Uncle, and he began singing at parties and dances as a teenager. He was a Merchant Marine in World War two, and did some amateur boxing during that time. In the mid 1940's he began performing in public as Tex Terry because his parents didn't want him in show business. He had moved to Bakersville, Calf. in 1947, and was the first major star to come out of the Bakersville scene. In 1953 he recorded some duets with Jean Shepard that became top ten hits. Husky also recorded under the name Simon Crum, which also had top ten hits. He frequently appeared on popular television shows such as "The Tonight Show", and appeared in several movies. Ferlin Husky had the first single country song from the Nashville sound era to 'crossover' to the pop top ten. "Gone" remains an outstanding country classic to this day. Husky was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010. Ferlin Husky passed away March 18, 2011 at Hendersonville, Tenn., he was 85. With his passing a great voice in country music was silenced. This Capitol Records 1990 Collectors Series compilation of 20 of Husky's best hits is highly recommended.
