It is almost a capital offense not to read CAPITOL OFFENSE. With non-stop dramatic action, this novel of suspense has a plot as big as Texas itself. It is a very fast-paced read with quite interesting characters. One mystery turns into another, one twist after another, keeping the reader on edge, wondering just who the good guys and the bad guys might be. You think you have a clue, and you turn the page to find another surprise. For people who enjoy mysteries, which is most all of us, this novel is tailor-made for you.

George Wier's "Capitol Offense" is a not to be missed thriller. Bill Travis is a money man. The go to guy if you have money that needs to be invested but maybe hidden from uncle Sam, hidden but in a legal sort of way. In spite of being a money man he seems to find himself in sticky, potentially deadly situations. In this sequel to The Last Call, he stumbles upon a plot to assassinate the governor of Texas. With the help of a few old friends and a few colorful new friends he does whatever he can to undo that kicking of the sleeping dog he awoken. If you like mysteries, if you like thrillers, if you like a page turner, then this is a book for you. Pick up your copy, along with its prequel, "The Last Call" and you are sure to be reading well into the night.

This book was a great read. I went through it quickly and found it difficult to put down. But like the other Bill Travis mysteries I've read, it is full of typos, grammatical errors and misused words. Where is a good editor when you need one? This is a very enjoyable series of books, and I recommend them, despite the mistakes that seem to run rampant. (a simple factual error is the description of a Buick Skylark as a long automobile...it was a compact for God's sake)

All good thrillers should also be mysteries, and George Wier has achieved this and more in Capitol Offense. A decade ago, mystery/thriller fans immediately dashed to the nearest bookstore with the release of each new John D. McDonald novel. Wier has crafted the same kind of action in his Bill Travis series; interesting characters, a plot that engages the reader in a pleasing way, and the kind of book that will keep you glued to the action well into the night. The characters are sometimes quirky, but believable, with situations that twist and turn in unexpected ways, but always clutches at your throat. I highly recommend this book.I downloaded this book from Amazon.

Adventurous, exciting mystery!,
By J. Conrad (Cedar Park, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Capitol Offense (The Bill Travis Mysteries) (Kindle Edition)
This was a really interesting mystery that kept me glued to my Kindle. I liked Bill Travis as a character because he's down to earth and believable. A fun aspect of the book is how he thinks his way through things. (He is an investment counselor who has a knack for getting himself into, shall we say, "situations.") When confronted with something, he often reflects back to a piece of his life or Texas history, which can be humorous at times and haunting at others. The story is full of a brand of southern humor and witticism that I've never seen in any other book - there were a lot of really funny one-liners in here, downright hilarious! But my favorite part of all was the adventuring element of the story. Just as things would settle down, he'd get himself into a worse predicament, even more messy and crazy than the last. The action scenes in this book are absolutely fantastic; they pull you right in and make you feel like you're there. Loved this book and can't wait to read the next one.

Bill Travis can get himself into anything you could imagine. If you open up this book, you'll see he can also get into some crap you would NEVER, EVER dream of! I paid double for these books, now that one considers the great deal given on the Omnibus, and I have no regrets! Check this book out! And George, thank you for writing some of the best stuff NOT written by Dr. Ron Paul that I have read since 2007!!
