Certainly not outstanding!,

There are serious intonation problems, most notably with the thin-sounding soprano sax (he goes sharp a lot). The ensemble synch is fine. The playing, however is pedestrian. The Music Minus One recording of the Goldrush Suite has more verve and humor than here!

Overall, a good cd,

This is a pretty good cd with a wide variety of music. The "Goldrush Suite" is fun to listen to, as is the Phil Woods excerpt. "American Sketches" is played fine, and is written to represent the ethnic background of each of the players. The whole composition of the piece could use a little more sparkle, but the players do it justice. Overall, a good cd, well played, though not outstanding.
