5.0 out of 5 stars Great surprise
This is not what I expected, but greatly entertained. I would like to see more of Marc Warren.

If you a fan of either gangsters movies or Al Capone this you make think is the right movie for you. WRONG! This movie has nothing to do with Al Capone. All it's about is three guys from Liverpool, England and they try too go into bootlegging and Boxing. When I rented out from my local rental store I thought I would like it, being a fan of both gangster movies and Al Capone. I was bored to tears. The film is boring. If you still want to know if Al Capone is acuterly in it then he is, but only after forty five minutes and doesn't make many apperences. Besides he looks nothing like Al Capone and they didn't even try too make an effort, unlike the Untouchables. The story isn't even remotely accurate, they don't even think of putting the real names of Capone's real henchmen in. This isn't realy a gangster movie, I've seen pletly of them to be able to tell you that. It' s more like a boxing movie. Thats all the film boils down to. A man who goes to what looks like Chicago but looks more like London or even Glasgow, and goes into so called bootlegging by selling 3 bottles of gin. He then somehow goes into boxing and then Al Capone's son is kiddnapped by a dwarf gangster, the boxer saves the day and steals one of Capone's so called henchmen's girlfriend. They move to Texas and live happily ever after. Sure it's sounds an ok story to you but I hate it. Don't waste you money on it. If you want to a proper gangster and it's to do with Al Capone and is true, then you should see Al Capone 1959 with Rod Stieger. Its a hell of alot cheaper and worth it money.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK Gangster Movie, June 23, 2004

This review is from: Capone's Boys: Blood Tough (DVD)
This movie is only OK compared to others that are available. It is hard to understand in places because of the English accents. Much less violence than in most gangster pics.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT about Al Capone, but about the Boys from Liverpool...., February 1, 2011
This review is from: Capone's Boys: Blood Tough (DVD)
I'll admit this is not the greatest, most accurate Al Capone movie. Far from it....but you've got to remember, this is not an accurate portrayal of the times, nor is the film supposed to be about Al Capone. It is the story of a bare knuckle, amateur boxer who comes to America with his two mates, seeking fortune, following the lure of America's promised "milk and honey".

It's a fun romp, with a cast of mostly British actors, largely unknown to most American film goers. It's a low budget film, and that shows, yes. But the star of the film, Marc Warren, gives an excellent performance - considering the weak script. Some of the best scenes in the film are ones between Marc and the fantastic Richard Roundtree (best know as the original Shaft) and those, coupled with the lovely eye-candy provided by Marc, are worth the price of this film.

No, they do *not* move to Texas and live happily ever after(as stated in another review)- they go home to Liverpool as first class passengers on the ship they worked their way across the Atlantic on, to get to America. It's more of a "rags to riches" story, with a healthy side of good old American blood-n-violence and a little name dropping (Al Capone) thrown in.

It is a far from accurate portrayal of the times, in many ways. But it was never meant to be a film about Al Capone.....hence the original title Capone's Boys, or Al's Lads, as it is known in the UK, where it was filmed. It is about the lads.....not Al.

I enjoyed it.....but then, I enjoy almost anything with Marc Warren in it. He's a super talented actor, whose chameleon-like roles are always sure to entertain. And that's what it's all about in my opinion. Entertainment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Georgeous!!!!, April 26, 2005
This review is from: Capone's Boys: Blood Tough (DVD)
Ok, a low budget gangster movie, but who asked?

Brilliant acting (Kirsty Mitchell sounds like an angel), Marc Warren plays his charakter with a cool temperament, and the most important thing on this movie is: it transports you an another era...
