Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The aroma of freshly ground coffee is tough to beat--and so is this Capresso burr grinder. While the machine feels somewhat lightweight and not overly durable, it does a fine job of uniformly grinding the beans at hand. The grind selector allows you to choose the size suitable for your coffee machine, while the electronic timer lets you grind beans for the appropriate number of cups. Once in a while, when the bean container is full, the beans tend to get caught in the grinder--but a quick shake of the contraption should dislodge any rogue beans and start the grinding action again. The burr grind wheel is removable for easy cleaning. This machine is easy to operate, but the lack of an instruction manual may prove an obstacle for the mechanically challenged. --Marcela Broussard

Product Description

The what, when, and why of burr grinders: burr grinders process beans through burrs (discs), at a slower speed, creating less dust than blade grinders, and less heat. Coffee dust from blade grinders can clog a pump espresso machine and excess heat can have a negative effect on aroma and flavor. Burr grinders deliver consistent and uniform grinding, making them suitable for drip coffee makers, French press, and percolators as well as highly recommended for pump espresso/cappuccino machines.

1.0 out of 5 stars If you're looking for a grinder, turn and run, May 3, 2000

This review is from: Capresso 551.01 Burr Coffee Grinder, Black (Kitchen)
I purchased this grinder and had it for only a month and it died. I called the Capresso hotline and got extremely rude customer service. I tried everything they suggested and the grinder was just plain dead. If I'm going to pay a larger sum of money for a product, it had better be good quality and I had better get good customer service. I sent the product back and got a full refund. I guess that is the best customer service Capresso could have ever given me. It is unfortunate that it is so difficult to find another grinder on the market that is in an affordable range like the Capresso. Its affordability is all it has going for it. I'm still searching for a quality grinder that won't put a big dent in my wallet. Oh, FYI the grinder was extremely noisy and it spit grounds all over the place. Keep searching.......

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor design, low quality, June 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Capresso 551.01 Burr Coffee Grinder, Black (Kitchen)
I returned my grinder after a few tries. Two major problems: (1) poor quality seal on the container spreads coffee grinds all over the counter; (2) the bean container at the top is poorly shaped, so a good portion of beans will not slide down into the grinding mechanism unless you shake the grinder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Counterpoint to negative reviews, July 24, 2006

This review is from: Capresso 551.01 Burr Coffee Grinder, Black (Kitchen)
I've been using this model of the Capresso burr grinder for about four years. I am bewildered by some of the negative comments I see on Amazon, for they are directly contradictory to my experience. The only disadvantage that I'll concede on this model is that it's not the right choice for high volume grinding for a large number of people. At home for an individual or a couple, it's hard to imagine a better solution or a better value. The price is great for a burr grinder. Mine has been producing accurate grinds without fail for the entire four-year period I've owned it. Visitors who grind their own coffee have commented that it's comparatively quiet. It won't dust your kitchen as long as you don't forget to slide the hopper into place (knock on wood). It has 1-9 coarseness settings. It does seem that if you ALWAYS use the same grind, it kind of "settles in" to that setting. It may be a good idea to use varying settings occasionally. Highly recommended for any home user.
