Very good unit, August 11, 2005
This review is from: Capresso 565.03 Infinity Burr Grinder, Polished Chrome (Kitchen)
I was leary of spending this much on a grinder. But I really like coffee and noticed that my home brew wasn't quite up to par with Pete's (coffee house where I get my beans). Now my home brew coffee is as good as it is when brewed at Pete's.
Pros:
-First and foremost- Coffee tastes better
-Convenient bean storage in hopper
-Not as loud as blade grinder
-Looks good on counter
-Consistent grind
Cons:
-Quality Assurance is questionable. First unit had a defective bean catcher. Second unit has machine mark on body. But the machine mark is cosmetic only and I've kept it.

Commercial quality. Absolute perfect grinding. Quiet. Worth every penny., April 22, 2006
This review is from: Capresso 565.03 Infinity Burr Grinder, Polished Chrome (Kitchen)
I purchased my first coffee grinder 20 years ago and have experienced much of the frustration that you read about in the reviews of MOST of the other coffee bean grinders. For some reason coffee grinders are often poorly designed and of horrid quality. Especially the cheap grinders are certainly no bargain. When I read the reviews of the cheap grinders it brings back "flashbacks" of extreme frustration (even some of the pricier units are garbage), noisy, messy and ultimately they break and are chucked into the garbage :-(
Then I bought THIS beautiful burr grinder.
This little gem is REALLY different (and infinitely better) than ALL the others. This is an absolutely wonderful coffee grinder in EVERY way. Coffee tastes better -- there is a "night and day" difference in flavor. And hey, if we're going through the trouble of grinding our own beans then what's the point if we don't get the best flavor for our work?
Grinders simply don't get any better than this in quality (not at ANY price). I have used this same grinder for a number of years now. It is used every single day, and after years of service it still grinds perfect coffee.
It's super quiet. I don't need to worry about waking my children when I grind beans every morning for my wife and I. The unit is super simple to use. It's easy to clean. The grinds are SO much more consistent than the cheaper grinders. The grinds are delivered neatly into a drawer that you can completely remove with ease to place the grounds in your coffee machine (mine is a french press). I also like the large (and attractive) bean hopper that makes it easy to fill in the morning when I'm still half asleep.
I like the fact that it grinds the beans without creating heat that cheaper grinders produce (that diminish the flavor of the ground beans in the cheaper grinders).
This is an extremely high quality grinder. Very well designed for ease of use. It's also so very easy to keep clean. I've experienced none of the mess of those poorly designed cheapo grinders that create static on the grounds. The machine itself is heavy-duty, (built solid as a rock) and finely crafted to last a lifetime. You don't see many machines crafted with the quality of this grinder. It's also VERY attractive in the kitchen. Small. Compact. Nice style & appearance. Very functional to use.
One last thing I DEEPLY appreciate is the fact that the grinds are of consistent size. I use a Bodum french press. The Bodum that I have, has a VERY small size screen on the press that allows me to grind my grounds to a "fine" size on the Capresso 565.03. There isn't the "bean dust" that is created by cheaper grinders (that make them useless for using with a french press).
All-in-all if you are looking for a high quality grinder that will last a lifetime, and one that will allow you to enjoy the absolute BEST out of your beans, then look no farther than this wonderful grinder.
A finely crafted precision machine in every way!

Worth the extra money if you like great coffee, June 27, 2005
This review is from: Capresso 565.03 Infinity Burr Grinder, Polished Chrome (Kitchen)
I own the brushed chrome model, but put my review here as well so everyone could benefit from my experience.
This is a very solid and well-designed grinder. The difference between using one of these and using a cheapo blade-type grinder is huge. Adjustable, consistent ground size is the largest benefit, and here the Capresso does a great job. The adjustment is done by twisting the whole top hopper, and when you do the adjustment there is a satisfying "click" as you move through the settings. There are enough different settings to please the espresso fan as well as the cowboy coffee lover from extra fine to coarse and everywhere in between.
There are other benefits though. The upper hopper holds a large supply of your whole beans and there is a tight-fitting lid on top to keep them fresh. You can put in enough for your whole week of coffee drinking. But you don't have to grind more than you need for one day! There is a timer that you turn to control the amount of grounds produced, and after a while you get to where you know just how far to turn it to produce enough ground coffee for your brew.
It's not anywhere near as loud as a blade type grinder. The burrs are ceramic and should last forever. The lower hopper for the grounds functions like a drawer, which you pull out to get your coffee. It pulls all the way out, so you can take it right to where you need it.
The only complaint I have is that evidently the grinding action creates static charge on the grounds themselves temporarily. So, if you just finished grinding, you may find that the grounds stick to the sides of the lower hopper for a few minutes. Some also stick to the underside of the unit where the top of the drawer scrapes past. This isn't normally a problem, but the top backside of the drawer, as it scrapes past the underside of the opening, will push these charged grounds, and rather than just falling off into the hopper, some will cling to the top and end up stuck to the lower lip of the unit. These grounds then fall onto your countertop. I wonder aloud if there is any way to dissipate the static from a design standpoint, but what works for me if I'm in such a big hurry is to wet my hands before touching the hopper. Alternatively you just grind in advance which eliminates the issue altogether.
We use a French Press to make our coffee. The adjustability of this grinder makes it easy to get course coffee grounds that are needed for that style of brew, and I can tell you that when people taste our coffee, they do NOT want to go back to drip. The only problem with French Presses is, even with coursely ground coffee, you always end up with some silt. I eliminate that by pouring the pressed coffee through a little single-serving filter as I'm serving it. Works for me; some people don't seem to mind the silt. Anyhow, before we got this grinder we used the cheapos and ended up with TONS of silt no matter how careful we were not to overgrind. Now we just get a little bit.
I will never go back to the cheapo grinders again! This thing's what you need.
