Pre-Parrothead Buffett,
By Nancy J Parr (San Angelo, TX United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Captain America (Audio CD)
Few artists allow the listener the opportunity to witness evolution the way that Jimmy Buffett does. Before the fun-loving, Margaritaville dwelling singer that most people visualize when they hear the name Jimmy Buffett, before the older, more reflective performer that he has matured into today, there was the Buffett that few (with the exception of Parrotheads) are aware of.I had not listened to any early Buffett for quite some time. The original two albums that make up Captain America are in my library but have not received much airtime of late. I picked up Captain America more for the album cover than for the content inside. Finding myself with a couple of free hours I put the earphones on and sat back to listen. To really hear a Buffett CD, use earphones. I'm not knocking speakers, it's just that you hear things with earphones that are somehow lost with conventional speakers. This CD set presents Jimmy as the folk-rock singing, blue grass picking, socially conscious artist that was early Buffett. The material in these two CD's is exceptional, both instrumentally and vocally and is an introspective look at the late 60's and early 70's. As a pirate looking at sixty I know, I was there. I only wish that I had discovered Jimmy before Margaritaville. Do yourself a favor and listen to these two CD's (and don't forget the earphones).

Two albums...One low price,

This review is from: Captain America (Audio CD)
This is an excellent deal! I purchased this 2 disc set for thirteen bucks. This set has all but one song,(England from High Cumberland Jubilee), from Buffet's first two albums. This is a completely different sound than his later works. It is more of a Country-Rock sound. But not that terrible Garth Brooks, Faith Hill Pop-Country garbage that you here today. This is more like something the Allman Brothers would have done. It even has a touch of Bluegrass to it. If you don't own Buffet's first two albums, this is an excellent buy. Buying them separate would cost over twenty dollars. The packaging is nicely done. It has a few good photos and a one page biography/summary of the two albums. All in all, it is a pretty great deal.

This cd is just one more remake of Jimmy Buffett's first two albums.
