Certainly not as weak as a coke can but not really strong either.

After removing it from the box, I found that the metal the shield is made from is very thin and weighs next to nothing.

I would have maybe paid 25 or 30 dollars for this item not the 60 i was totally charged.

I'm a very big Captain America fan. In preparation for the Avengers movie next summer, my friends and I are assembling costume pieces. I'm to be Cap, and to be Cap, one must have the shield. Unfortunately, there were no reviews to analyze so that I could make an informed decision. Also, in trying to find a metal shield of good quality (and that didn't cost ~$400), this was the best to be found. After a lot of research and price comparisons, I arrived at purchasing this shield.
Upon arrival, the shield, despite being packaged very well, had numerous dents. Since it was packaged as well as it was, I can only assume it was placed in the box to be shipped with the dents already present. After removing it from the box, I found that the metal the shield is made from is very thin and weighs next to nothing. The seller's description of the product was true, in that the shield was new in box, metal, ~24" in diameter, etc.
What wasn't told is that the metal is flimsy--prone to denting and warping. The straps on the back are adjustable, but thin elastic, so that even when adjusted properly, the elastic expands and the shield does not stay in place.
The shield is a good wall decoration, and a decent costume prop, but for it to be worth ~$70 + tax is very questionable. When I make a costume, I go all out and make it the best it can be (want proof? check: [...] for my Ghostbusters costume). In order to use the shield for my costume, I'll have to modify it: replace the straps with something more sturdy and not elastic, and reinforce the back with resin/fiberglass so that the slightest touch won't dent it. After paying ~$70 for it, I shouldn't have to spend more money modifying it so that it doesn't dent and warp.

First off, the picture is either photo-shopped or of an earlier version of the item. The rivits that hold the straps in are very visible in person, but can't be seen on the item in the picture. If you move the item, it makes the sound of flimsy sheet metal, which is all this is. This item is barely worth $10, let alone the $65 I was charged. You'd be better off trying to find one of the plastic ones, which I plan to do in the near future. You might even be better off making one out of a plastic trash can lid. I am so disappointed in this purchase. Oh well, live and learn.

The quality of this product is very disappointing. When I pulled the shield out of the box it was shipped in it already had a few visible warps in the shield. When I picked it up I pressed it and it was as malleable as an aluminum can. The straps weren't very well described in the product description either. They are flimsy and barely hold.

That aside, it looks good and would be a decent wall decoration. But I would not pay more than 35 dollars for this work of art. :( I feel robbed.

Its a trash can lid, its the right size, but has to be worn on your back, no way for it to really fit on your arm, and tents super easy. By metal it means Tin at best.

Believe what you read! It does look good but it IS flimsy! If you put your arm in it and wave it back and forth. It bends a bit in both directions! I haven't had out for Halloween yet, but I am worried about walking around a crowded bar with it... First bump into a person and I fear it will bend around like a fortune cookie!! But works good for photos.

Recieve this as a surprise gift. I really should have read the reviews before putting on my wish lists. Yes this shield is not worth the $70 price tag it's more of a $40 item. Item was packed well. They need to improve the picture they have up because you can not see from the picture the fact that the red does not go all the way to the edge the metal coloring is seen, as well as the 8 lil dots that shows where the straps are screwed in, it makes it look really cheap. It is of course flimsy since it's tin. Will make an ok wall decoration or costume prop.

For those of your that have read the other reviews of this item, let me confirm that the rumors are true. Yes the metal is flimsy. Certainly not as weak as a coke can but not really strong either. The size of the shield makes it very easy to warp if you are not careful with it.
The picture listed on Amazon is not the actual item. What you receive is similar to the photo in that it is a Captain America shield, but the metal, from where it was stamped, has stamp lines around each ring and the star. There were also what looked like dents in it when received, but with a closer look seem to be markings from when it went through the stamping process. It also has around the edge a fold from hiding the sharp edges. It should have been folded to the inside to hide it. The folded ring is a gold color, the same as the back and clashes with the red, white and blue. Whoever called it a trash can lid hit the nail on the head.
There are also rivets on the front for the straps on the back that looks pretty crappy. This design was not thought through well.
If you are thinking of buying a shield, I recommend going with the 24" plastic. It will stand up better over time. It is also half the price. I hope my experience has helped.
