This is the Red Menace Ultimate Collection, collecting the previously published Volumes 1 & 2. Amazon's title has Vol 2 in it, but that is inaccurate. This was a good story. I know of the events of Civil War, but this tells how it got started. The Brubaker comics are really interesting to me (have been buying them since the Captain America movie made me a Cap fan, and have been really enjoying them). It was a good follow-up to the Winter Soldier Collection, but that was so awesome, it was hard to follow. Crossbones and Sin are great villians, and I love what Brubaker is doing w/ Red Skull. It was cool seeing some of the English superheroes, mostly Union Jack. Nice to see some of the minor villians in these comics that are in the Captain America movie game I'm currently playing. I really liked that the 'flashback' 65th Anniversary Special was done by a different artist. This collects Captain America #15-21, and the 65th Anniversary Special (as Amazon doesn't clearly indicate that).

Ed Brubaker & Steve Epting continue their visionary Cap saga, this time joined by Mike Perkins(who also provides excellent art on par with Epting's), as well as Javier Pulido & Marcos Martin for the awesome 65th Anniversary Special. The story picks up where the epic Winter Soldier saga left off, but first showcases Crossbones at his villainous best, as his loyalty to the seemingly deceased Red Skull leads him to reforge the insanity within the twisted mind and black heart of the Skull's daughter, Synthia Schmidt, aka Sin, through an intense reprogramming session. This sets these two up as major threats for the majority of Burbaker's run, as they cut a bloody swath across the Midwest on a death-trip that would make the duo in "Natural Born Killers" jealous, with a method behind the wanton madness to find the person responsible for the Skull's seeming demise. This leads to a collision course with Cap & Sharon Carter, who are not only following the deadly duo's path of destruction to a small Midwestern town with its own deeply buried secret, but also following rumored sightings of Bucky, who with his memories and morality restored is seeking both redemption and vengeance for the acts he committed as the Winter Soldier, but also trying to make peace with the past for a deadly mission against villainous mastermind Aleksander Lukin- who everyone, inc. the Skull's right hand man and sadistic spawn- is gunning for- that he doesn't plan to walk away from. Cap and Sharon have their work cut out for them as they uncover this small town's secret, and face the murderous double-team of Crossbones & Sin while also following Bucky's trail, and trying to learn what secret from his past brought him to this seemingly innocuous town where everything is going down.Read more ›

Book in new condition, well-packed. Shipping was slow, but I was pleasantly surprised at how very responsive to my disappointment. Daily Deals USA was eager to make things right, and I am certain that I will deal with them again, only being cognizant that the shipping may be slow - but also recognizing what a great price and quality product they offer. Additionally, the story is another excellent installment in the ongoing saga of the First Avenger - no, really; for me, Captain America was an Avenger from almost the beginning. I remember buying and reading the book where the original Avengers discovered Cap frozen in the ocean and revived him. Captain America can sometimes seem a little corny and old-fashioned in his values and upright forthrightness, but the world today needs quite a bit more of his approach to become part of day-to-day living. This story, along with the Winter Soldier saga, the Death of.. and so on are all well written updates on Cap's life story, and they explore mature themes in a mature manner. Great storytelling and artwork. I can't wait to continue re-discovering Steve Rogers et al, and encourage you to do the same if your tastes include a realistic look at a fantasy character's life behind, beyond, and without the mask...

Crossbones succeeded in rescuing the Red Skull's daughter Sin who had been brain washed by S.H.I.E.L.D., and due to this she has no recollection of her past. Crossbones is dead set on reminding her who she is no matter how bad he has to beat and torture her. Meanwhile, Captain America is convinced Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier is still alive and he's going to find him. -summary

Along with many fans I wasn't very happy to see Ed Brubaker resurrect Cap's first partner Bucky whom was supposedly killed in WWII. It wasn't just because I believed and still do some characters should stay dead, it was mainly due to the fact bringing him back was just a huge plot hole, since he did appear among the Legion of the Unliving, which means he was in fact dead. Well, this wasn't the first time Marvel pulled something like this, and it's not going to be the last either. In any case, Ed Brubaker made some noise in the Captain America books beginning with the Winter Soldier arc. Red Menace is the follow up story as it continues to build upon past story elements. Unfortunately, it's not exactly newbie friendly because you need to know what happened previously to understand both the Winter Soldier's and Red Skull's situations, since nothing is recapped here at any point. This TPB collects the two story arcs Collision Course 1-2, and Twenty First Century Blitz 1-4 across Captain America issues 15-21.

While the story does have its level of suspense and even touching on down to Earth themes concerning corporate hands pulling governments strings, this is an all out action comic at heart with plenty of faces good and bad.
