This is a very cute book. It has lots of pictures for younger children and a captivating story for older children. I would highly suggest reading this book.

My wife and I recently bought this book during a trip to the Outer Banks. We are expecting our first child and have a cat that looks similar to Captain Stumpy, so this book caught our eye. We read through the whole thing right there in the store and couldn't stop laughing. It's a very cute book, written in rhyme. The story is great for kids, and funny for adults. The illustrations are fantastic. We plan on buying the next two books in the series soon.

I had the distinct pleasure yesterday to visit Jeremy and Herbert Bliven at their home and museum in Manteo on Roanoke Island in North Carolina. As we drove up, Jeremy was feeding one of the many feral cats that roam the Island. This one was wary of human contact, but up on the porch of the house there were several who knew who their Friend was, including Stumpy of course. After years of caring for the Island cats, Jeremy decided to write about his friends. This book is well written with a pleasant rhyme and reads quickly enough for a great bedtime story. It is a wonderful and imaginative tale for any child... but as an adult I find myself thinking of the wise and gentle moral of this story often. I remind my grandchildren "What would Tiggy Pants have done in this situation? Of course, I would be greatly remiss to ignore the fun and fanciful effect of the illustrations done by Jeremy's dad Herbert. The pictures are beautiful with characters who are so true to the story one has to believe that these two men love not only each other, but the world they live in. I belive that this book will soon be up there with The Gruffalo and Jon Muth's tales on my (and my grandchildren's) list of favorite books. Andto make the tale even better: the funds go to take care of the Island cats.
