Book Description

Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater
“The Queen is in the Counting House” is a timely tale about up-and-coming Boston Red Sox catcher Zachary Devlin who could perhaps take the team to a World Championship, but only if he can survive—literally—the annual Cape Cod exhibition game.

A child’s prank goes horribly wrong, trapping a young boy in a cast iron safe in “Don't Touch That Dial!” The listener follows in real time as Captain Underhill must use his wits to defeat an enemy he can't out-think or out-maneuver—the locked safe—in time to open the door before the boy runs out of air.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another winning entry in the Cape Cod Radio Mystery Series, June 3, 2005
By
This review is from: Captain Underhill Unlocks the Enigma: The Queen is in the Counting House and Don't Touch That Dial! (Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater) (Audio CD)
For those unfamiliar with this series, Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater is a radio series that presents two types of stories to the listener. They occasionally do one-shot stories of suspense, reminiscent of classic anthology shows like "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". More often, however, the show is about the detective exploits of Captain Waverly Underhill and his sidekick, Dr. Alexander Scoffield. It's sort of a cross between "Grumpy Old Men" and "Murder She Wrote". This collection contains two Underhill mysteries, "The Queen is in the Counting House" and "Don't Touch That Dial". Both are very entertaining stories, but "Dial" is easily the stronger of the two. It is a real-time thriller in which Underhill must free a young boy from a safe in which he has become trapped. The writing and performances are top notch and Mark Birmingham's musical score is brilliant, setting the mood for this tense story in which time is running out. I would recommend this collection to any mystery fan or to people who enjoy the classic radio play genre.

This series of Cape Cod mysteries are good for people just trying out reading on audio as they have all the differnt voices and sound effects. These are well done.
