Grade 2-5–In their eighth epic adventure, George and Harold use the Purple Potty to travel to an alternate universe where teachers care, the library has books, and kids eat at a five-star gourmet cafeteria. Unfortunately they also encounter Evil George and Evil Harold, who transform good Mr. Krupp into Captain Blunderpants. The evil duo also steal the boys' pets, Crackers and Sulu, and hitch a ride back to George and Harold's world. They might destroy that world with Evil Sulu, the world's biggest baddest bionic hamster, but are thwarted by the arthritic avengers Boxer Boy and Great-Granny Girdle and their geezer power. Part novel, part comic book, and part Flip-o-rama™ (add your own sound effects), this newest adventure will not disappoint the legions of Captain Underpants fans. The cartoon pictures almost tell the story, making it a boon for struggling readers. Maybe kids, like Pilkey, will be inspired to write their own comics, invent their own superheroes, poke fun at the absurdities they see, and not worry about a few (in Pilkey's case, deliberately) misspelled words. Yet another Pilkey pleasure,

Since reviewers need to be over 13, I'll type my 6-year-old son's comments. Henry says: I found it very funny. I thought it was hilarious. The Flip-o-ramas were good and the whole book was awesome. I've read all of the CU books, as well as the Ricky Ricotta books up to book 7, and I would say this one isn't the best, but it's awfully good. It was funny when Boxer Boy and Great Granny Girdle kissed.

Captain Underpants Scholastic Inc., 2006, 175pp, $4.99Dav Pilkey 0-493-37614-9 Two kids named George and Harold hypnotize their principal into thinking he is a superhero by using a "3-D hypno ring." When they don't follow the directions to a time machine they end up in an opposite world. Now they meet their doubles and have to stop them from taking over the world. Will George and Harold stop their doubles? Read the book and find out. My opinion for this book is that it is really great. The author of this book, Dav Pilkey, writes very good fantasy books in my opinion. I would recommend this book to kids from ages 7-12 because it isn't that interesting otherwise.

My kids are fighting over who gets to read the book next. And of course, I have to wait until all three of my kids are finished before I can read it. But the son who read it says it's great.
