I loved this book.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Captain's Command (Paperback)
Hello, I'm ten years old and a BIG fan of historical fiction, especially World War II stories. I wanted to read Captain's Command only so I could complete my Historical Fiction book report, but it turned out to be something worth re-reading.In this story, a young girl named Gail, and her family (Siblings Timmy and Mary Nell, and her mother) learn that Gail's father, a World War II soldier, is missing in action. Everyone but Gail's mother believes that he is dead. Meanwhile, Gail's blind uncle Ned is facing his own troubles. Gail's Golden Retriever dog, Captain, may be the key to helping Ned. Several pages per chapter focus on two men in the war, but it isn't revealed 'till near the end of the story which one is Gail's father, and even then it isn't necessarily mentioned. But when we find out if he's alive or dead, it becomes obvious. This book was written in a beautiful, flowing way. All the words fit together perfectly and Anna Myers' writing is captivating. The only complaint I have about this book is that I sometimes found my mind wandering, so it wasn't one of those books that you just can't put down. This isn't necassarily a problem, though, so, for the most part, this book is wonderful, and makes me glad I chose to read it.

My Favorite Book Ever!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Captain's Command (Hardcover)
When Gail finds that her father is missing in action in WWII she's convinced he's still alive. Her Uncle Ned, who was blinded in the war, believes he is dead and is very depressed. He goes out to a creek in a blizzard. It is up to Gail and her golden retriever, Captain, to save him before it is too late! I really liked this book because it kept me on my toes. It was so suspenseful I could hardly put the book down! I would recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction and action.

Wonderful and exciting story,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Captain's Command (Hardcover)
If you like sad and happy ending, this is the book for you. Captain's Command is a very interesting story that takes place during World War II. Gail is a girl who's father's plane got shot down during the war. Everyone in her town thinks that her father is dead, except Gail's mother, who has faith that he is still alive. Gail's Uncle Ned has lost his faith after being blinded in the war. Her Uncle Ned is very bitter and it keeps Gail from talking to him. It seems that only Gail's dog Captain, a golden retriever can break through her uncle's shell. During the story Gail and Captain try to save Ned from destroying himself, while Gail cant help wondering if she'll ever see her father again. My favorite part in the story is the end because it made me cry a happy cry. I really liked how the author told two stories at once. One story was of two random soldiers struggling to get home after crashing to the ground and the other story was of Gail and her family's struggle to get over her father's death. If you really like good and exciting books, I definitely recommend this book to you.

Great story about a dog, a child, and the child's struggle to deal with difficulty and help someone,
This review is from: Captain's Command (Hardcover)
I was actually purchasing a copy of this book after having read a copy from the library. My 9 year old daughter was enchanted with the story as was I. The story of a young girl who is able to deal with news that her father is missing in World War II, an uncle who has been injured, and the dog that helps her through it was touching. The story allowed the main character to develop strength and character, rather than just wallowing in self pity. This is a good story for a child to begin to understand difficulties of life, without being overwhelmed.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Captain's Command (Turtleback)
This book was about a girl named Gail and her father being missing in action in world war 2.Everyone thinks he's dead but Gail's mom won't let Gail and her sister and brother think that. Gail has a dog named Captin who Gail's uncle who is blind pretents to not like him but really dose. So you need to read this book to see if her father lives or dies and why this book is called what it's called.

Every one in town says that her father is dead. Well the girl beleives that her father is alive his is just missing and s ome one is going to find him. While The little girl's mom is saying that her dad is alive her Uncle Ned is saying he is dead. Ned was hurt in the war. I think every one should read this book. You need to read this book to find out if the little girl's father is dead or not and will Ned change his mind and belive that his brother is alive.

Captain's Command,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Captain's Command (Paperback)
When Gail's father is missing in action in World War 2, everyone in town believes he is dead. But Gail's mother wants Gail and her brother and sister to believe he's alive. Gail's Uncle Ned was blinded in war and has pretty much given up on everything. Captain, Gail's dog, seems to be the only one to get Ned to believe. This is a sad story, but I liked it a lot. You will have to read Captain's Command to find out if Gail's father lives or not, and why Captain's name is in the title.
