I adore this book.,

This review is from: The Captain's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
This book, originally (Passion's Bride), is the reason I read everything Jo Goodman writes. It is the first book I read of hers, and one of my favorites. It has a strong heroine in Alex, and a perfect partner for her in Cloud. The story line is interesting and believable. The cast of characters feel like old friends. I adore this book. It's one that you will read over and over again.

Magnificent Read,

This review is from: The Captain's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
When I first read the back cover of this book I was not very sure about it. So it went on the bottom of my pile. I am so glad I decided to read it. I love romance books with both strong heros and heroines. That is exactly what you get in this book. The love that grows between Alex and Cloud is very believable and you understand why they care for eachother. Something that is sometimes missing from other romance novels. The plot of the story is also very interesting and full of action. I never became bored while reading. I think one of the hardest challenges a writer can face is how to keep the female strong and independent without stompping all over the male. Jo Goodman did an excellent job and I hope to find more books like this one.

A good read,

Another good read from Jo Goodman. This book isn't as good as some of her most recent books, but it still held my interest. After reading the Dennehey sisters series and My Steadfast/Reckless heart, nothing can compare. But it, read it, enjoy it, but always go back to her other series.

I got this book because I am an avid reader of anything by Jo Goodman, as I think she is one of the best romance writers around today. Her books have believable characters and actually have plots whereas so many do not. I think she has a great writing style and usually can not put her books down, and I read them again and again. I got this one because it was reprinted and I had read all the others except this one. This was her first book, and as such, I do not think it is as good as the more recent ones, but it was a good read. I just did not find Alex as believable as most of her heroines, even though she was very strong. While this was a great read, at times I had to put it down and read something else, where I never do that with any of the other books, even those I have previously read. I love how most of her books tie in at least somewhere with another of her previous books. This one is no exception, with both Alex and Cloud making an appearance in the book Velvet Night, a later publication. Overall it is a good read, but not one of her best, so if you have read some of her later books, this may not seem as well written, but remember it was written about 25 years ago, and as an author she has grown.

Much better than I expected!,
This review is from: The Captain's Lady (Mass Market Paperback)
My daughter bought this for me from a used bookstore, probably because it has a sparkly cover, so it went to the top of my TBR pile. It was much better than I had expected. The storyline is pretty exciting and complex for a romance novel (and I read them often). There was a lot of excitement and adventure, and I loved that the heroine of this story is very strong, smart, and independent. The details in this book were great, and it is very easy to cheer these characters on! If you would like to read an historical romance with a solid plot, I highly recommend this book to you!

I thought the book was good, it had a l0ot of twists and turns. But it wasn't as good as I would have hoped it would be. I do think you should give the book a try, it was worth the money.
