More About the Author

Louise M. Gouge has been married to David Gouge for over 46 years. They have four grown children and seven grandchildren. Louise attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando, earning a BA in English/Creative Writing, and Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, earning a Master of Liberal Studies degree. Louise's novel, Ahab's Bride, Book One of Ahab's Legacy, (RiverOak Publishing, 2004) was her master's thesis at Rollins College. Hannah Rose, Book Two of Ahab's Legacy, was released in 2005, and was the honored with the Inspirational Readers Choice Award. Son of Perdition, Book Three of Ahab's Legacy, was released in February 2006.

Louise now writes for Harlequin's Love Inspired Historical Line, with four books published and more coming. Her current time period is the English Regency era.

While writing Christian fiction is her primary occupation and labor of love, Louise is also an adjunct professor of English and Humanities at Valencia Community College in Kissimmee, Florida. Having received her advanced education in middle age, she tries to inspire her younger students to complete their own education early. For her older students, Louise hopes that her experiences prove that it is never too late for them to work toward their dreams. (Her first novel was published after she turned fifty!) In the classroom, she attempts to live out her Christian faith both in words and in action.

Louise's favorite Bible verse is 'He shall choose our inheritance for us' (Psalm 47:4), a testimony to her belief that God has chosen a path for each believer. To seek that path and to trust His wisdom is to find the greatest happiness in life.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Elegant Trip Into History, March 16, 2010
This review is from: The Captain's Lady (Love Inspired Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
My first impression upon picking up The Captain's Lady by Louise M. Gouge was one of elegance. From the sophisticated cover, to the rich time period filled with elegant silks and powdered whigs, to the graceful writing style ringing of merry old England, everything about this novel bespoke culture and refinement. Steeple Hill Love Inspired Historicals are breaking out of the mold of prairie romances and westerns to explore interesting times and places that are sure to please. This book will easily hold its own among the finest historicals being produced today for the CBA market. The Captain's Lady offers adventure, romance, and intrigue. Amidst all of that, it is layered with rich subplots and well-rounded minor characters. The conflicts in this book are organic to the plot. The tension never feels contrived or forced. The plot itself is well paced and resolves beautifully while still leaving possibilities for future spin offs. In addition to all of these merits, the book has a lovely spiritual tone. The hero and heroine are both true heart-felt believers longing to serve God, yet pulled apart by divided loyalties. In the midst of this, they seek God's plans day by day and find opportunities to reach out and bless others despite their own crises. This book is not just for Steeple Hill readers. I think any lover of romances or historicals will enjoy it immensely. The quality of this book is unquestionable. I give it a very high recommendation. Louise M. Gouge has found a new fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable!, March 8, 2010
This review is from: The Captain's Lady (Love Inspired Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Captain's Lady was a delightful book. Louise Gouge does a wonderful job taking you back to when our country declared itself separate from England. She gives you accurate insight to the time period and allows you to feel some of the struggles that our Christian ancestors had to deal with in going to war with their King and in some cases family and friends. The second half of the book really picks up and keeps you on turning the pages as the stakes are raised. It is a great book to read and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading historical romances.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very very good book, April 9, 2011
This review is from: The Captain's Lady (Love Inspired Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed this book. It was set in one of my favorite times periods - the revoluntionary war era. I like how the book was mostly set in England with an "American" and then moved to the US at the end. I also liked hearing a Christian's side of how they felt about what they had to do for their country. I also enjoyed the interaction between the two main characters - Jamie and Marianne. Very good book.
