5.0 out of 5 stars "Captiva"-ted my attention, October 8, 2007

I only heard a few songs from Falling from their first 2 albums. I actually first heard of them when I just purchased "Exit Lights" on a whim. It totally blew me away, and although the titles do get crazy, the lyrics do have meaning. Are these people really Christian music artists?

So what's the verdict on Captiva? It's a blend of Exit Lights and their first two albums in a way. I can't stop playing it over and over again. The guitar. The sounds. Everything. And most importantly, the lyrics. My favorite is "Good Morning Planetarium" along with "Maps" and "How They Made Cameras" as far as lyrics are concerned. The first track though really just grabs you.

The tunes do remind me of the current alternative/rock bands out there, but Falling Up is totally on a different level as those bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars what does Captiva mean?, October 6, 2007

question: how can you make an album to top Dawn Escapes? "its not possable!" wrong. the first time I listened to Captive, I wasn't sure what to think. the second time, I loved it. its much quieter then the previous 3, but thats expected, given that there's two less members to the band. my personal favorite song is "How They Made Cameras" it sounds more like Dawn Escapes. the guitar on "Hotel Aquarium" is awsome, and the vocals on "The Dark Side of Indoor Track Meets" are INCREDIBLE. at first, I wasn't too sure about "Goodnight Gravity" as it honestly reminded me of some thing Reliant K would come out whith. but after a few listens, it grew on me. all in all, the album is full of beautiful lyrics, spot on vocals, electronic awsome-ness (complaments to Exit Lights)and melodic piano. once again Falling Up proves themselves as one of the greatest bands to ever bless the ears of the world. ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Falling Up Is Still Excellent, But Sadly Not "As" Excellent, December 6, 2007
This review is from: Captiva (Audio CD)
Well, there was a time when Falling Up was hands down the best christian rock band to be found. They combied thought provoking lyrics with jazz fusion beats and ferocious guitars. That Falling Up, sadly, appears to be gone. Instead we are treated (and it is a treat) to a set of radio gems with very poetic lyrics and melodies that will stick in your head for days. If you're looking for a brand of Falling Up that's abandoned hard rock for punk pop this is massively entertaining release your sure to enjoy. As for me, I'll pray Falling Up brings some of their original style back, and until then enjoy TFK as the new best christian rock band.
PS
This really is a very good CD for the genre! : )
