Review

This isn't another one of your lovey dovey vampire books. Afflictions CAPTIVATED is about adventure, love and friends. I love this book so much! I feel like I'm inside it witnessing everything. The words to it makes you feel like your there and you can feel everything the characters feel. The best thing about this book is the comedy! I love all the characters and how funny they are! This is now my favorite teen book and I think it's way better than any other teenage vampire books people read these days! I recommend everyone to read this because it s such a unique book. I think this is going to be a bestseller! --Tatiana, age 14

I loved this book! I could not put it down. All the characters and the story line really pulled me in. It was great to see a different spin on the whole vampire thing too. When the end came, I was so upset. For two reasons...1, I didn't want it to end and 2, the way it ended had me screaming in disbelief. I'm totally hooked! I can hardly wait for the next one. --Tedi, age 39

From funny...to romance...to paranormal, this book has it all! The characters are appealing and easy to love. The story rolls out smoothly throughout the book without complicated details...and without the same old ending. I'm left wanting more and can't wait for the next book to come out. --RG, age 32

Captivated is the story of Mindy, a normal teenage girl surrounded by abnormal occurrences. First, she loses her best friend Dean when his parents are murdered and he becomes withdrawn. Then, years later, as she is still missing Dean, another mysterious guy, Shane, comes to town. There is clear animosity between Dean and Shane, and Mindy and her friend Markus want to know what is going on. When Markus thinks he has witnessed Dean murdering several people, Mindy thinks he's crazy. But is he? Mindy quickly becomes involved in a dangerous web of events, and she may not make it out alive.

Alright. I had major mixed feelings about Captivated. There were moments I felt myself being pulled into the story, and I liked I was reading. But also, there were a few issues I had with the story, one major. So let me get started with the aspects that I liked.

In general, I liked the story. I don't want to get into the details, for fear of spoilers, but the mystery surrounding Dean and Shane was intriguing. I had a good idea as to what was going on, at least with Shane, but I didn't know for sure. So for that reason, I must give props to the author.

I liked the character of Dean. But honestly, that's a no-brainer because I'm a huge Supernatural fan and yeah...I love Dean on the show. So she basically had me the first time his name was mentioned. But then again, I was distracted by the name because I wanted to go watch a few episodes instead of reading. I digress. Dean is definitely the strong silent type, letting his actions or laser beam glares do his talking. He is super buff, has tattoos and makes all the girls in school drool when he's around. But as quiet and dangerous as Dean is, he has a soft spot where Mindy is concerned.

I am not one to write reviews but feel I need to add my two cents. The concept of the plot line was great but how it was executed was awful! The grammar, sentence structure, and misspellings were nothing to be desired as well as the repeating of points in later paragraphs after it was clearly explained / pointed out. The writing didn't remind me of reading a novel but instead sitting down with a friend and having her gossip out the story.

The main character, Mindy, I liked- to a point. She was sweet, funny, and witty however her constant oooooooooogling over Dean (which every time he arrived on the scene lasted several pages long) made Mindy look like an air headed teen not to mention ruined the flow of the book. Add to it her (spoiler alert!) "almost rape" and how she "handled it" left a bad taste in my mouth. It seemed as if it was added just for the drama which was quite annoying.

I feel this book had a lot of potential if the author had the ability to execute it properly. Perhaps with more experience that may happen. I am glad I got this as a free kindle download. I will NOT be seeking out the next book. I honestly don't think I could get through it.

"I let out a huff and forced a smile. "You're a vampire."
I stated. "Then why haven't I sucked your blood Lina?" He
whispered right before pressing his soft lips against mine.
Then he inched towards my neck and lingered his lips on
my pulse.

( I want to apologize now, this review is lacking alot compared to my other reviews, it was one of those books that honestly was hard to really write a review, without making it a spoiler review and I didnt want to give you guys any spoilers (: )

You know that feeling when you find a book that was just so great, all you want to do is read it again, OR when a book is so great that you would almost do anything to have your hands on book 2 right then? That's the feeling Captivated by D. Apodaca left me.

Captivated is threw the eyes of Mindy and Dean. Mindy and Dean use to be best friends, but after a tragic accident of Dean parents death...they never even speak now. Dean is completely cut off from everyone at school, and Mindy couldn't care less. Why should she? Him and her had been best friends, now he won't even look at her.

Just when Mindy thought this was going to be another boring year of high school...weird things start to happen...theres a new guy at school, Shane...and Mindy knows he is gorgeous, and well perfect but she cant help the thought in the back of her head..that something is just off about him. Dean looks angry all the time now...and weird things are happening ever since Shane showed up..

One night while Mindy and her two best friends Markus and Tanya are at a club, Markus tells Mindy he saw Dean kill two people outside the club...but when Mindy asks where are the bodies..Markus decides to confide in her and tells her, that after Dean killed them...
