Another good read from Nora Roberts!,
This review is from: Captivated (Silhouette Special Edition #768) (Paperback)
Since I collected all of Nora Roberts' books a few summers ago, I am slowly reading her titles to make them last. But considering she writes three books a year, I will most likely always have a Nora book to look forward to. And once again as she has done in the past this author has entranced me with the first book in the Donovan series, Captivated. When Nash, a Hollywood writer, needs help with facts for his next thriller movie, he seeks out the beautiful Morgana, known in the community to be a bona fide witch. But what he doesn't reckon with are her powers which he doesn't at first believe are anything more than pranks. And he certainly doesn't believe that her two cousins, Sebastian and Anastasia are anymore witches than their parents are either. Like many of Nora's other series book, this one is light and entertaining and has me looking forward to reading the next title, Entranced. Note - Although it says that this title is out of print, in 1999, the first three Donovan titles were published in one book called The Donovan Legacy. And at the same time the fourth book Enchanted about cousin Liam Donovan was also published. So happy Wiccan reading and afterwards tell me you don't believe there is any truth in this paranormal tale.

Sweet Story but Not Captivating,
By Susan H. Bachle (Tallahassee, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Captivated (Donovan Legacy) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to admit I was not completely captivated by this story. The ending (last 30 pages or so) was great - surprise and utter romance. Everything leading up to the ending was pretty repetitive and uneventful, except for the few witch demonstrations. But due to the ending of the book, I recommend it to any Nora Roberts fan.

A disappointed Nora Roberts read,
By Lisa J "dancingflame" (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Captivated (Donovan Legacy) (Mass Market Paperback)
Nora Roberts is one of my favorite authors. However, Captivated fell flat for me. The problem - No Plot. The book was first published in 1992. If you are a fan of Ms. Roberts, you can see how much she's grown as a writer in the last 12 years, if you've read of her more recent works. I like all the characters, I just wish they were doing something other than the cliche'. After I bought this book, a co-worker noticed that I had it, because she's a big NR fan, too. She said she couldn't get into it, and neither could I. I finished it (she didn't), but not without forcing myself to pick it up and do so. Skip this series, it's not worth it.

Charming, unusual. Positive Witchcraft and familiars.,
By swoodsong@aol.com (U.S.) - See all my reviews

This book was a welcome and unexpected relief from the hum-drum of most romances. The characters were vivid, and of course, much larger than life. The use of the Wiccan religion as a background was quite detailed and fairly true to life. Although, of course, most modern day Witches do not levitate when they kiss their prospective lovers. The trials and tribulations of our main character, Morgana, as she resists the lure of the obvious husband-to-be, Nash, are somewhat predictable in the independent female type line. However, the addition of her familiar, an Occult shop and the characters that accompany such a lifestyle add a charm and flair rarely seen in such material. The wrap-up include priceless and humourous views of what appears to be a haunted castle deep in Ireland. I can only say - Read It! And then, look for the others. Even now, I am searching for the other two titles in the Donovan Series.

It was just o.k. for me!,

This review is from: Captivated (Donovan Legacy) (Mass Market Paperback)
I had read The Reef which was a great book so I decided to read this one. Well it was just o.k. The Reef was much better!! There was just not much to it. It was just a clean cut happy story. No x-boyfriends, no enemies, nothing except that Nash thought Morgana had put a spell on him when all it was was he had fallen head over heels in love with her. Yeah you do stupid things when you are in love. If you like sappy love stories with not much of a struggle this would be perfect for you. I like my stories with a little excitement, some struggles the characters have to go through then when they do get together it makes it all the more sweeter. Plus it is more interesting to read. If you want to read an enjoyable book with action, (good), interesting main characters, tropical settings, and a realistic romance story with problems but they do work them out then read The Reef. It's a great book!!

A Love Spell or True Love?,
By
This review is from: Captivated (Donovan Legacy) (Mass Market Paperback)
When screenwriter Nash Kirkland wanted to research information on witches for his next horror movie, he went to a real one. Enters Morgana Donovan, a witch with a good reputation. But the problem for Nash is that he becomes obsessed with getting to know the real Morgana - her likes, dislikes, etc. Has she put a love spell on him or has he taken the plunge on his own? He's sure it's a spell, because he's never felt like this before. Would his doubts in her character ruin any chance at happiness that they might have?
CAPTIVATED is a wonderful story that will leave the reader feeling great after reading that last page. It's a true "feel good" tale. It's definitely worth the price of purchase. It's also a good thing that the publishing house reprinted this with the other stories of the Donovan Legacy, as they were very difficult to find before the reprint.

A Wonderful Tale of Magic and Romance,
This review is from: Captivated (Donovan Legacy) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have the entire Donovan series, of which this is the first book. It was this very series that first started me reading Nora Roberts and I must say that nothing she has has drawn my attention and hunger for reading as much as this particular series. I could go on about all four books but since this is a review for Captivated I will restrain myself. This paticular tale shows that witchcraft and modern day life and technology can go hand in hand without it seeming overly weird or dark and gothic. Morgana is an independent businesswoman who is just as happy making a profit as she is weaving her craft. The chemistry between her and horror film writer Nash is heady while maintaining its spark. There is no real threat towards either of them like in many of Nora Roberts's series, but it really isn't needed. Overall it is a wonderful beginning for a magical series.

This was a reread for me. I really like this book. It is the first in a series about the Donovan Cousins that were born each with different magical powers. Their family is magical going back many generations.
This is Morgana's story. She is the witch in the family who specializes in spells and magic. She owns a shop called Wicca that sells crystals, lotions and bath salts along with other magic tools. Nash Kirkland is a sci-fi, horror movie writer and seeks out the infamous witch to help with the research for his next screenplay. He doesn't believe she really has powers and she isn't out to prove herself. This is a fun fantasy filled tale. It is fun to watch him realize her power is real and to watch them fall in love. Like all good romances they have their obstacles to overcome. A Very enjoyable read. You'll want to read the next three stories starring Morgana's cousins.

CAPTIVATED, 1st in Roberts' Donovan Legacy, a screenplay writer, Nash Kirkland, sought out Morgana Dovovan, a witch, to help him research his latest movie screenplay. Kirkland was a skeptic, though, thinking that witchcraft and magic were only found in movies, not real life. As Morgana spends more time with Nash, he finds himself falling for her... or is he falling under her spell? How could he know if the passion he felt for Morgana was real?
