Gorgeous, riveting, CAPTIVATING historical/erotica!,
This review is from: The Captivation (Black Lace Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
This may sound unoriginal, but Natasha Rostova's (pseudonym) Captivation is truly... well, captivating. This beautiful and delectable erotic-cum-historical novel enthralled me from beginning to end. The riveting story and smoldering erotica left me longing for more, so to speak. The year is 1917, during the Russian Revolution, and Katya Leskova, a Russian princess, tries to escape to freedom. However, the Cossack army imprisons her after her royal identity is revealed. The soldiers haven't touched a woman in months and their desire is palpable. But Alexei, the tall, dark and sensual Cossack captain, isn't willing to share the beautiful, albeit insubordinate, princess. Dominant by nature, Alexei takes Katya to an erotic journey she'd never envisaged. Katya isn't quite easy to tame, and a struggle to prove power over each other ensues...This novel is beautifully written -- Ms. Rostova has a way with words. She never resorts to vulgar smuttiness or corny romanticism. There are a lot of erotic scenes in this novel -- sometimes with two or three scenes in one single chapter. However, they don't intervene with the engrossing tale and historical references. I enjoyed the subtle backdrop of domination and submission. The author favors mind games and control over the physical aspect of S&M -- something that both impressed and enthralled me. This is the best Black Lace offering I've read thus far. I shall look forward to reading Ms. Rostova's other books. I couldn't recommend this gorgeous, riveting and captivating gem enough!

One of the Best Black Lace I have read!,

This book was very strong and erotic. Takes place during the Russian Revolution. "She" is of the wealthy, "he" is involved in the uprising and take-over. He captures her and hold her prisoner, and tries to bend her to his will. She baulks almost every step of the way, and he turns the circumstances to show her, each time, that he is the one with the power. There is a theme and story line, the characters are well-defined and the sex is incredible. Wow what a book, one of the best of the Black Lace that I have read!

The best Black Lace I've read,

This review is from: The Captivation (Black Lace Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to confess this book is the best Black Lace book I've ever read. I consumed it in record of 5 hours, unable to put it down. It's the first BL in which I've been able to relate to the heroine, Katya. Set during the Russian Revolution, Katya a member of the royal family tries to flee Russia, leaving behind her lover, Nicholas. Katya is captured by a Cossack Captain, Alexii and it is with him that Katya gets to know another side of herself. I can honestly not rave enough about this book. I cared about the characters and understood Katya's motivation. But the probably the thing that are appealed to me most was that Katya didn't have sex with every second man she met. Hurry, hurry, hurry and order your copy today.

I really enjoyed this book. It has a good story plot unlike some erotica writings. The ending is romantic and the (intimate momonts are) hot. I would recommend it highly.

I love reading BDSM erotica, and I purchased this book because I'd heard that it had some D/s elements in it. And that it did. Katya's relationship with the dominant Alexei was spellbinding. The mental power games between the two of them were indeed captivating. I found myself looking forward to scenes that involved them, and I found that the only scenes that aroused me were the ones that involved Alexei. (Of course, I'm submissive myself, so that explains why only the D/s scenes turned me on.)I was actually surprised at the number of sexual scenes in the book, and even moreso at the many different combinations of sexual couplings. I went into the book thinking it was going to be about one couple only (Katya and Alexei)...and I think I would have preferred it that way. But having more people involved did make it interesting though, and one aspect that particularly interested me was the jealousy that arose between the different players, and how it affected them. The ending chapter brought tears to my eyes. I wasn't entirely satisfied with Katya's final choice, but even had she picked the other option, I wouldn't have been entirely satisfied with that, either. There didn't seem to be a clear-cut winning option. But I suppose that's what happens when you get emotionally involved with multiple men at the same time. This was the first real "historical" erotic book I've read, and I really enjoyed the backdrop of the Russian Revolution. The settings were palpable...from the hot, steamy kitchens...to the cold stony cellars...to the crackling fires of dimly lit bedchambers...to the icy Russian landscapes. Overall, a very enjoyable read. It had a little bit of everything in it and will appeal to BDSM-lovers and vanillas alike!

The glowing reviews here prompted me to purchase this book, but I have to say I was not as enthralled as other readers have been...I'm that odd bird that looks for substantive plot along with scenes of "!!!", when reading my trashy novels. What I mean is, if all you're reading is sex scenes strung together by unbelievable plot, even an erotic book gets kind of dull. If you're looking for nothing more than hot scenes, well, this book certainly delivers, but the plot of this book was pretty convoluted. Characterizations were generally light, and the heroine was especially so -- just a sexual Barbie doll, basically. As for me, I'll think I'll reread TEA AND SPICES.

Captivated, Indeed,
This review is from: The Captivation (Black Lace Series) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book by Natasha Rostova that I've read and I'm already looking forward to reading more of her writing. The story is great. It's about a Russian princess named Katya that is captured by Alexei, a Cossack army captain during the Russian revolution. While she's with him, she learns to explore the many aspects of who she is and who she can be. In the end, she has to choose between Alexie and Nicholas, a Tsarist soldier whom she fell in love with before meeting Alexei. The back cover reads: "In 1917, war-torn Russia is teetering on the brink of the Bolshevik revolution. A Russian princess, Katya Leskovna, and her relatives are forced to leave their estate when a mob threatens their lives. After a gruelling journey, Katya ends up in the encampment of a rebel Cossack army. The men have not seen a woman for weeks and sexual tensions are running high. When the Cossack captain, a man of dark and compelling desires, discovers Katya's background, he has no intention of allowing her to leave or to deny her evident desire fo him. Against the turbulent background of the Russian revolution, Katya and the captain become involved in an erotic struggle to prove their power and mastery over each other." S.

and sexual situations. This is the first book I have ever read from this author and was very pleased with the story. In my opinion Katya was torn between her true love Nicholas, and the exciting general Alexi who teaches her not so much about sex, but the sensual aspects as well. I was surprised how the book ended, but could understand the choice Katya made. I would recommend this book to others who enjoy reading erotica romance.

The best erotic book I've read in EONS. As a writer and editor of erotic fiction myself, I read so much erotica that it takes a LOT to move me. And Captivation certainly did. You know a book has done its job when it has moved you so physically and emotionally that it sits in your head for weeks afterward. The erotic buildup is constant throughout the book. The reader quickly becomes absorbed in Katya's world, delightfully revelling in the lusty exploration of her sexuality. I cannot begin to sing the erotic praises that this book deserves. Kudos to Natasha Rostova!

I could have done without the gypsy threesome, but otherwise it was exciting and well-written, with a happy ending. Overall a satisfying read.
