This short book was written for the 9-12 age group, but is of interest to any Leia fan. It is well constructed, flows nicely, and contains new insights into her character. The author is obviously intrigued by the Han-Leia relationship and provides some interesting and fun details on their initial feelings towards each other, as well as on Leia's early relationship with Luke. This is not a "relationship" story, however, and those aspects are nicely balanced with action scenes. A good read, certainly appropriate for the intended age group, and, particularly at the low price, worthwhile for any Star Wars fan.

Remember the very first movie shown in theaters of the Star Wars Saga? Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca, and the droids team up for the first time against Darth Vader and the dreaded Death Star.

Now relive it all from the viewpoint of Princess Leia Organa. She wrote it all in her journal in hopes that should she die, the journal and all its secrets would find its way to the Rebellion!

***** The book reads much like a diary with a recorder built in. It begins before the movie did and ends shortly past where the movie ended. Leia tells how she came into possession of the Death Star plans and what she endured as Vader's prisoner. We can see how the Force influenced her strongly in her decisions. Though she had no idea what or where these strange and strong feelings were from, Leia trusted it. We see a glimpse of the proof showing that the Force runs strong in the Skywalker family, and we understand more about Leia, Luke, and Han. All-in-all, this book is a masterpiece! *****

The Han-Leia interaction in this book was hilarious. When he interupted and entered "her royal pain in the highness" in the data pad. (In the true spirit of Han and Leia's first meeting) I was rolling on the floor laughing. Thoose two are funny together, even in the face of being nearly killed. Nice to see there are new insults to read about. I'm a big Leia fan and a Han Leia nut, so I loved thoose parts. When she said han solo was correctly named, because no one could be a bigger fan of Han Solo than himself, I was dying. Nice also, is her mixed "he seems famliar" almost motherly inclination towards Luke.

Perhaps the best part of the Journal is the insight into her time on the Death Star. We knew she wasn't just sitting around painting her nails, but to read what happened is a totally different thing (Especially since we now have an image of her life on Alderaan). She attacked her father (Vader). Okay, she didn't know he was her father, but....

It's a wonderfully fun read.

Actually, the only journal I haven't read is Anakin's and they've all been good.

I bought this book wondering just how good could a book on Leia's point of view in A New Hope be? I mean after all we saw the movie. But I was really surprised. This was an excellent book. We learned new things like how Leia got the plans for the Death Star in the first place and what happened while Leia was on board the Death Star waiting for Luke to come rescue her (well not waiting...you know what I mean). Her thoughts on her first meetings with Luke and Han. Her and Han's bickering was hilarous. A must read for every Star Wars fan.

This is an excellent book. It gives great detail about Leia's time in the Death Star Detention Block. I would reccomend this book to any Star Wars fan no matter what the age. It is a must have.

This is a review of the Scholastic book Star wars Journal - Captive of Evil -by Princess Leia Organa - written by Jude Watson and published July, 1998. Scholastic specializes in books for 9 to 12 year olds, and jude Watson is an experienced author in writing at this level. Watson is also the author of the Prequel books aimed at the same age group called Jedi Quest which is the adventures of obi-Wan and his young Padawan Anakin.

In the novelization of Star Wars the adventures of Luke Skywalker (sometimes called New Hope) they expanded a little on the torture that Leia received while she was captive on the Death Star. This short book is the Journal that Leia kept while being held in the tender graces of Tarkin and Vader. It is the journal she kept throughout NH giving us her take on the greatest movie ever made.

Scholastic has also produced journal for Luke and Han if you like this one.

While I didn't think this journal was as good as Luke's, it was definitely one of the better ones. This gives an excellent depiction of A New Hope through Leia's eyes, giving an intirely new perspective to the story. An especially good point is that not only does it let us at last know what Leia was thinking at this time, but it also gives us a bigger view of the intire story (ever wonder how Leia got the Death Star plans in the first place?) and letting us get to know the true character inside. It was interesting to at last know what she was thinking, and the constant bickering she had with Han was hilarious. I usually don't pay much attention to their relationship, since Luke is my favorite and I was always more interested in his relationships, yet this book shed new light on both of their characters and actually got me interested in them. Also her early conection with Luke was compelling, much as it both intrigued and disturbed her. Speaking of Luke, it's very interesing to see how he is portrayed in the different journals. For instance, in his own journal he was portrayed as being an awesome hero, the star of everything. In Han's he was seen as a well meaning dweeb, and here he is just plain cute. Coincidence? Anyway, I highly recommend this book to Star Wars fans of all ages, though 9-12 would probably enjoy it best.

I read everything I can get my hands on that has anything to do with Star Wars. Yes, even kid's books. I liked this book a lot, because the untold stories are even better thn the movies.

I thought this was a great book. It was a little short, and some of the things I didn't agree with, but I really got to see into Leia's mind and see what she was thinking during ANH.

I enjoyed it alot even though I could read it twenty times a day because it is so short. It was the first Star Wars book I've read and really got me interested in other novels as well. I would recomend it to people who just started getting into SW, but I guess other SW fans might enjoy it to.
