You've got to be kidding me!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Captive Splendors: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
As a big fan of historical romances, I was sorely disappointed in the substance, or lack thereof, in this novel. The heroine, a term that I have to use very lightly in this case, was put in one stupid, horrible, and then unbelievable situation after another, yet it seemed that she did not learn from any of them. She seemed to be able to best an opponent two to three times her size, but was completely helpless and witless with a lesser opponent. The author lost creditbiliy with her audience, me, when she started to add pieces to the storyline that had no rhyme or reason. When I read historical romances, I want to be transported to another place and time and usually try to imagine how I would feel or what I would say if I were placed in the same position as the heroine. Unfortunately, I found myself saying out loud several times while reading this novel; "you've got to be kidding me!" This was my first Fern Michaels novel, and quite possibly my last. I have heard good things about her as an author but I am afraid to waste my precious reading time with another of her novels for fear that it too would lack credibiity and imagination.

Captive Splendor,
By A Customer
This review is from: Captive Splendors: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
This story was horrible! Instead of a strong street smart female character that emerge from the "most horrible experience" a woman can be subjected to, I read about an individual who allows herself to be duped into another horrible situation. There was no growth, depth or strength in this heroine. This is one book we can all do without reading!

Disappointing,

I loved "Captive Passions" but this one was a disappointment. There are mistakes in the book (some of the characters' names are wrong) and the plot was a rehash of "Captive Passions" but with less-intelligent and less likeable characters.

exquisite passion & adventure...,

from front preface page:"Caleb, help me." It was the barest whisper, & he almost failed to hear it. He held her closer, careful of her injuries, as he struggled to give her the warmth of his body. "I'm here, Wren, I'm here." Throughout the long, endless night, wren cried out for Caleb & he would answer, his mouth pressed against her ear. His strong, sinewy arms held her. From time to time he kissed her cheek in tenderness. And through the night, as her chills began to abate & her sleep became lighter, her words became clearer. As Wren told him what she had suffered before coming aboard his ship, he wrapped his arms protectively around the girl who slept so trustingly in his arms...

Captive Splendors is just great. Fern Michaels outdoes herself on this wonderful series of books. You can't put this one down, but than you can't put any of the other of the series down either. Loved it!
