Book Description

July 1, 2001 The Stars of Mithra
Like the Harlequin Series, this is a well-loved Romance line offered by Thorndike Press in a library hardcover format. Featured authors include Nora Roberts and Diana Palmer.

It should have been easy. All he had to do was pick up some long-legged redhead who wasn't even bothering to hide. But cynical bounty hunter Jack Dakota soon discovered there was nothing easy about spitfire M.J. O'Leary -- or about this case. Someone had set them both up. Now they were handcuffed together and on the run from a pair of hired killers.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

In this fast-paced second book of Nora Roberts's Stars of Mithras series, bounty hunter Jack Dakota figures he's in for an easy assignment when he accepts a job tracking beautiful bail-jumper M.J. O'Leary. His plan is simple: find her, push his way into her apartment, explain the situation, and bring her in.

When M.J., a fifth-degree black belt, misinterprets his intentions and attacks him, Jack is forced to reevaluate his assumptions. Jack and M.J. discover they've both been set up. M.J. is no bail-jumper, and whoever put Jack on her trail knows it.

Before they can figure out what's happening, a goon with a gun--and every intention of shooting M.J.--interrupts their discussion. They join forces to fight him off and escape, but much to the tough-minded M.J.'s annoyance, Jack takes charge of the situation and she finds herself handcuffed to the door handle of his beat-up, souped-up Oldsmobile.

Jack has no intention of letting M.J. go until he gets to the bottom of things. The men on her trail are professionals, and if she's not directly involved in something illegal, she is involved in something that's likely to get her killed. The cynical bounty hunter is no knight in shining armor, but he finds himself in the uncomfortable position of protecting her; whatever is happening, M.J. isn't talking about it.

Searching her belongings, Jack discovers a magnificent blue diamond. M.J. is forced to explain that a friend in trouble sent her the stone for safekeeping. The diamond is one of a priceless trio known as the Stars of Mithras, which her friend was appraising for the Smithsonian. But someone else knows M.J. has it--someone who will stop at nothing to obtain it.

Soon Jack and M.J. are on the run, forced to work together to stay alive in an ever-tightening web of danger and conspiracy complicated by an attraction neither can deny. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This was better than the first book which was great. This one still had the romance but along with a lot of action. You got to love M.J she has spunk! Jack the bounty hunter is MJ match all right. This book had never ending adventure and the pages really turned between M.J. and Jack's romance and fighting. Start with Hidden Star it is best you read these in order. This was a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mirtha Star series, November 26, 2001
By
This review is from: Captive Star (The Stars of Mithra) (Mass Market Paperback)
Nora Roberts keeps getting better and better with every book I read. This star series is no exception. Each book is connected and "flows" into each other. Very similar to Sea Swept, Inner Harbor and Rising Tides. Like other Roberts trilogies, you MUST read these in order.
Hidden Star about Bailey and Cade then Captive Star about Jack and M.J and finally Secret Star about Grace and Seth. The last book in my opinion is really the best although it's a tie between the second and third books. The passion in each story grows but more than passion is the unbelievable bond between each woman and the men they fall in love with. Not to mention the bond between three friends. Like most Nora Roberts series each story has humor, romance, mystery, sex murder, kidnappings, rescuing, strength and a intellegent theme. Three stars of Mirtha has a mythogical history to it. Wonderful stories I can't say enough. Nora Roberts is a Goddess. Tell everyone you know....and read, read, read.

5.0 out of 5 stars non stop action, August 27, 2001

This review is from: Captive Star (The Stars of Mithra) (Mass Market Paperback)
Although this is the 2nd book of the series, I found it better than the first {but that was also good}. For those of you who are "Eve Dallas" fans, as I am, M.J. is alot like her. As for Jack, well lets just say that is a male version. This book gave non-stop action. It gave you every bit of romance, murder, thrills, and quite a few laughs. The relationship with M.J. and Jack is not just romance, but a "I can kick your butt better"; and with that it reminds you of what they are trying to unravel. There is no better match in this series than M.J. and Jack. They can love eachother in one breath and then get to serious fighting the next {sometimes it's with eachother}. I suggest to read the first "Hidden Star" so that you can get the true back ground, even thought Roberts' does a great job of informing you if you haven't read it.
