Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

As the son of a Methodist minister, Loudin had a nomadic childhood and thus became acquainted with a lot of people's hometowns. An excellent teacher of watercolor technique, he focuses on the romantic telling of the story of a town. In the vein of Norman Rockwell, there is a nostalgic aura to these very accomplished demonstrations. Loudin transforms an old railroad station into an imaginary flower stand he calls "Flutterby Station." He paints, as he says, "quaint reminders of bygone days," and if your patrons have an interest in this genre, Loudin's book is a good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible book for the serious artist., February 19, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Capture the Charm of Your Hometown in Watercolor (Hardcover)
I am a "profesional" seascape artist and needed a push to get myself painting again; and perhaps a change of pace. I find that this book is brim-full of important info, techniques and ideas which any artist can enjoy applying. Raves!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good teaching book, September 6, 2011

Agree w/everyhting the above reviews say. I will add that this is a good teaching book on planning your painting and how to execute details like bricks etc. This is a much better buy than Bye's book...which is mostly a good picture book on watercolor buildings and less on actual teaching like the Loudin book is.
