What would you do if you learned that your whole life had been a lie? Who do you trust? Is the story your being told even true? These are the questions that Bailey must face as she enters a journey to discover who she really is. Captured Lies is a very edge of your seat sort of book. It takes you through the loss of who Bailey believed was her mother to discovering that there are a ton of secrets surrounding her very existence. This is a action packed thriller that leaves you wanting to find the answers just as badly as Bailey (the main character of the book). I was totally enthralled with this book and read it as if it were my life that needed to be discovered. Maggie Thom writing style had me setting up and taking notice. I believe I will be reading more of her books. Captured Lies was most definitely my cup of tea and I hope it will be yours as well!

Capture Lies is a story full of twist and turns. Maggie Thom's characters are well fleshed out and believable. The shear will of Bailey to overcome and survive everything that is thrown at her is admirable, to say the least.
The twist and turns throughout the book keep you on your toes and turning the pages. The humor between Bailey and Guy, the PI hired to find her, is a welcome break in the sometimes violent moments of the book.
Although this is not my normal read, I thoroughly enjoyed Captured Lies and give it 5 stars.

First, I want to say that I received this book as a gift from the author. I moderate a book of the month club that features independent authors and this was one among my reading list for that book club. I got this book during a rather rough time a few weeks ago and Maggie has been a doll about how long it's taken me to read her book. I just want to say I am grateful for indie authors like Maggie who have been the epitome of good-people to me.

4.5 stars

Captured Lies is a classic suspense with a great story that will keep you on your toes until the revelations at the end. I almost hate to use this word, but the mystery and suspense of the story was certainly convoluted enough to keep me guessing about the antagonists. I can honestly say that I have less experience with suspense than I have with most other genres, but I was thoroughly captivated by her writing style and story line.

Bailey is a bad-ass chic trying for a normal life amid her mother's insistent rules that she garner zero attention in her life. When her mother dies, Bailey begins to unravel the truth behind a lifetime of living hand-to-mouth, moving unexpectedly, and rules that have never made sense to her. With the unwanted help of Guy, a private detective who finds himself on a more dangerous gig than he expected, Bailey works through the emotional and mental trauma of losing her mother, discovering the lies surrounding her life, and working out how to live on the other side of the mess her mother left her.

This is the first book in the Caspian Wine series and as soon as I get my reading list down, I will be getting the next. Maggie Thom is an indie author that will draw you into her story and keep you until you finish--no bookmarks required.

“Thrills And Suspense Keeps The Reader Turning The Pages.”

Bailey Saunders’ world suddenly comes to a jarring stop. The mother she’s known all her 29 years dies, and a stranger shows up telling her she’s not who she thinks she is. If that wasn’t enough, it appears someone is trying to kill her, and the stranger keeps showing up wanting to explain things. But Bailey has always made her own decisions, and doesn’t trust anyone. She’s determined to find out what’s going on, if it kills her – and it just might, if she doesn’t stop to think things through. But that’s not her style, and we are led on a merry-go-round chase of danger and intrigue as she runs for her life

Maggie Thom keeps the suspense thick and heavy, as we follow Bailey’s plight. It all started 29 years ago, when baby Cassidy LeFevre was kidnapped from the hospital, then disappeared. The baby’s grandmother had seen a newspaper report of a girl bearing the likeness of Cassidy’s mother, and hires Guy Turner of Knights Associates to investigate the girl’s background, in case she’s her missing granddaughter. But someone else thinks that baby Cassidy has surfaced again after 29 years, and wants her dead.

Many secrets start to unfold, and Knights Associates can’t believe how deep they tie into the baby’s family, but could there be a hidden killer in the family closet, or does it involve Bailey’s mother, and how deep? And will Bailey live to see those answers revealed?

As a mystery lover, I couldn’t put the book down. The author captured me with her writing style, and the characters carried me away. Every time Bailey took off alone, I was on the edge of the chair. Didn’t she know someone was hiding in the dark? Would she live to the next chapter? Yes, it’s one of those kinds of stories. The kind of mystery that makes me want to read more. I’m already looking forward to Maggie Thom’s next thriller. Highly recommended.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The first scene in Captured Lies is attention grabbing. It is obvious later on in the book that the main character was involved in the first scene. Although we're not sure why or what happened to lead to that scene so there's still plenty of mystery left. Then there was also the fact that a lot of people seemed to be after Bailey and discovering their motives becomes the main motive of the reader(or at least it was mine).

Much of Captured Lies had a lot of attention to detail. The author was through and made sure that the reader could easily picture everyone and everything. It wasn't hard to see the book as a movie going through my head. I enjoyed the descriptions and the ease that the author had when describing things.

It was clear that everyone was connected somehow and sometimes we'd be given little glimpses of the connections but it took a while to put together how people were connected, especially to Bailey and why they all wanted to find her and/or hurt her. It was interesting to see all of these connections come to light. I enjoyed it and the difficultly of trying to figure out who was connected with whom and why.

Then there were the characters. Bailey was an interesting character. She had absolutely no idea who she really was and when it came to light she didn't go looking for a payout or anything. She just wanted to get to know the family she never had. It was refreshing in a book full of characters that were greedy. And Guy. Guy was great! He was amusing, refreshing, and appreciated everything he was given. I have to admit that he was my favorite character in Captured Lies.

Captured Lies is a good read for people who enjoy suspense and mysteries. It was an interesting book, with lots of connections to figure out.
