Review

10 (Perfect!) “TOP PICK! Fellow romance lovers run, don’t walk to your nearest bookstore and get this book.” (The Season)

CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD is a multifaceted, character rich novel of passion and adventure. I readily recommend CAPTURED BY A ROGUE LORD. Pirate romances have come a long way since the bodice-rippers of the olden day, and Ms. Ashe is a welcome new voice in the genre. (Romance Reviews Today)

4.5 Blue Ribbon Rating “Rompalicious! … Packed full with adventure, witty repartee, an intriguing plot, wonderful characters, steamy hot love scenes and even pirates, this story is unforgettable.” (Romance Junkies)

From the Back Cover

She would marry no man . . .

Serena Carlyle dreams of a happily ever after. Firmly upon the shelf at twenty-five, instead she's determined to find the perfect match for her beautiful younger sister. What better prospect than their neighbor, the wealthy, rakishly handsome Earl of Savege? Now Serena can beg his help in halting a local band of smugglers. Then, one night, stealing away from yet another disappointing ball, Serena finds herself trapped alone with a stranger . . .

Until he captured her—body and soul

His kiss was irresistible, his caress unforgettable, and he hides a devastating secret. A Robin Hood upon the sea, Alex Savege is the brazen pirate Redstone, seizing the yachts of spoiled noblemen to settle an old debt. Serena needs a hero, but her heart is in the gravest danger—for it is soon to be captured by a man as skilled at seduction as he is at plunder.

Good:
Chemistry and the action in the story. I thought the story flowed well and the characters were well developed. It definitely kept me interested and the fact that I severely disliked a few of the characters , showed how well written they were.

Not so good:
(spoiler?)
I did not like how hard these poor women had to fight for their men. At times, I really wanted to ask if they had any pride. This is actually my not so good for the whole series. Strong women turn weak fir men. Not my favorite scenario.

The not so good did not stop me from reading the next few in the series. That is why I gave it 3 starts. Enjoy!

Serena Carlyle knows that the life most aristocratic daughters expect to have will never be for her. At twenty-five, Serena is firmly on the shelf and her goal for this particular season is to ensure that her stepsister, Charity, isn't pushed into an unhappy engagement by her mother. Though, to be honest, the Earl of Savage - the man Charity's mother wants her to marry - could be the perfect bridegroom for Charity, if he gave up his rakish ways. The earl is not only their neighbor, he's handsome, young, wealthy, and Serena would love nothing more than to have his aid in stopping the smugglers that are veritably crawling the coast by their homes. However, Serena's first encounter with her potential brother-in-law is anything but ordinary. A kiss in a darkened room makes Serena yearn for things she knows she cannot have...and starts her fascination with the tempting Alexander Savage. Soon Serena finds herself falling for a man whose secrets are the stuff of legend. For Alex isn't merely an earl, but the infamous pirate Redstone.

Get ready for a spectacularly sensual adventure in Captured by a Rogue Lord. Katharine Ashe starts off with a bang in this exciting romance, with sparks flying between Serena and Alex. I was hooked immediately by this pair and could feel the grin spreading across my face as Serena and Alex started their obstacle-filled road to happily ever after. The two of them are bright, compelling protagonists and Ms. Ashe brought them to life in such a way that I wish they were real, if for no other reason than they'd be people I would want to know.

Where Captured by a Rogue Lord falters is the middle third of the book.

The pirate Redstone and the Earl of Savege are both Alex - Alex Savege. Alex Savege and Serena Carlyle have a chance encounter and are smitten with one another. But Serena finds out that Alex is betrothed to her younger sister Charity. Is Alex and Serena's love doomed?
This is a book that I won at a pirate workshop at the RT Booklovers' Convention in 2011 in Los Angeles, and I was SO excited to have won it. This was the first book of Katherine Ashe's that I'd ever read, and I was impressed by the depth of the fictional world she's created. This book is exceptionally well-written and captivating.
Also, there is something incredibly alluring about a noble whose alias is a pirate who attacks the ships of other nobles. I really like that Ashe created a different kind of heroine than the supermodel run-of-the-mill sort. With delightful plot twists and a strong, saucy heroine, this is one that will keep you up long into the night, unable to stop turning pages.
Now, after reading this book, I want to be captured by a rogue lord too!

This was a great mash-up of Robin Hood and Cinderella--with a wicked step-mother to boot. Serena and Alex are def. meant for each other. I though it was the perfect blend of pirates' revenge and beautiful love story. And good grief, the hero and heroine's chemistry is hot, hot, HOT! Go buy this book now. Perfect beach read. Perfect stay inside read.

I can't wait for Ashe's next book.

I was hooked from the beginning. This book has all the elements of a great romance read: Earl/Pirate, wicked stepmother, smugglers, innocent sisters, the list goes on. Somehow though, Ashe makes it all work without losing the romance- which by the way was breathtaking. (It makes me wish I had a stable to sneak off to....) In all, a great story, well done!

I'm catching up on reviewing older books. This is my favorite of The Rogues of the Sea series. A mysterious lord, a spinster and smugglers - what more can you want? It's a wonderful complex story leading into the 3rd Rogue (In The Arms of a Marquess) and then The Falcon Club series. I recommend all of Katharine's books.

Is there something wrong with me if I read the book twice within one week? Yes, that's what I did. You will be enchanted by these two lead characters, Alex and Serena and I especially like that Serena is a head-strong woman with a mind of her own.

Loved it! Lots of great adventure on dramatic cliffs, tons of excellent chemistry between Serena and Alex. If you like the classic fairy-tales with evil step-mothers, gallant heroes, and the tough-as-nails heroines who deal with it all and come out happy in the end, you'll love this story!
