Product Description

From the Manufacturer

A car-combat role-playing game? "Strange!," you doubtless think.

Don't be so quick to brush off this wild ride, though. Publisher Natsume has cornered the market on offbeat RPGs. In the various Harvest Moons for Super NES, GBC and N64, you're a lovesick farmer, while virtual anglers can trade bugs and fish between the two Legend of the River King GB games.

Car Battler Joe originally came out in 2001 in Japan, where they take their RPGs very seriously indeed.

As the son of a famous car battler, Joe Todoroki has all the ambition and natural ability to become a master of mechanical mayhem. Early on, Joe may not have much experience or firepower, but gains both as he takes on new jobs and gussies up his garage.

In Joe's home town, Padorko, you will meet many interesting people and tinker in Joe's garage. Everything from the chassis to the weapons will affect performance. You can even craft multiple vehicles from spare parts.

Once your preparations are complete you can accept one of several jobs posted at a local shop. These jobs require you to deliver goods or destroy enemies in exchange for cold cash. Once you build a reputation, people will begin to ask for you by name and the coming-of-age story unfolds.

The real action begins when moving from town to town. The motorized melees takes place on a rotating plane that showcases the processing prowess of the Game Boy Advance. Out in the wastelands, you will encounter gun-toting enemies who will test the durability and firepower of your ride.

Car Battler Joe adheres closely to standard RPG elements but the car combat looks and feels good. Customizing your car is fun for the grease monkey at heart, but may be overwhelming for some.

Up to four players can go head to head in their customized vehicles using GBAs and Game Paks for every player and enough GBA Game Link cables to connect all systems.

This game has been rated "E" (Everyone) by the independent Entertainment Software Rating Board. Progress is saved to the Game Pak in a single save file.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great refreshingly original game for the GBA, February 17, 2003
This review is from: Car Battler Joe (Video Game)
It's kind of hard to describe Car Battler Joe without getting a bit befuddled. This innovative game from Natsume and SVG is part action, part RPG, and part strategy game; and while it may not be the best game to feature all those aspects, it combines them all into one refreshingly original game for the GBA. You play as a teenager named Joe who is a car battler. Throughout the game you compete against other car battlers while you take jobs from various townspeople, and you also get to create and build cars. The combat perspective when you face off against other cars in real time, is strikingly similar to that of the original Twisted Metal and is pretty fun overall. The gameplay of pretty much being able to do what you want, whether you want to spend all day building vehicles, doing jobs for townspeople, or going about the storyline, is great to see in a game for the GBA, and while it is a bit eclectic (a stolen cheese delivery?) and may be a turn off for some, Car Battler Joe is still a great game. All in all, GBA owners looking for a game with some twists should give this a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game For Vigilante Car Fighting, With Good Storyline, January 30, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Car Battler Joe (Video Game)
If you like RPGs and Car Games, then i highly recommend that you buy this! This game is an RPG where you play as a 16 year old in search of his missing father, who is a famous car battler. The gameplay is similar to pokemon, but not lame like pokemon, you walk around in towns and drive inbetween collecting items to upgrade your car and garage. You battle with people along the way when they cause you trouble. Your battles are cool too, you drive in a third person view and shoot your opponents with an assortment of weapons. This game is great fun for anyone who wants a good story with fast action fighting. This is my favorite game for the gameboy advance.
THIS GAME IS AWESOME, GET IT AND YOU WILL ENJOY IT NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF GAMES YOU LIKE TO PLAY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cool Game, October 21, 2002

I'm preordering this game cause i read some info about it in a magazine.I'll tell ya a little bit about this,in my own words....

First off, this is an RPG/adventure.This is kinda like Twisted Metal for Playstation, but a little different.1.Battle System-You don't go and pick up weapons like on other cat shooting games. You musy buy them. You get money on the fights you do,and how quickly you defeat enemies. You can go to yo your garage and upgrade your car in many ways, like making it look better, for example, making it tougher so you won't die so quickly.Or,you can buy different weapons and put them on the front of your car, side,or back.2.Challenges-You can either talk to people, and some will challenge you to car fights,or you can go to this certain place where they people post challenges and you can accept.3.Graphics-the graphics may look like a little kids game, but, the game is so much fun, that you may not even mind.4.Bascially,if you like RPGs or shooting cars, like Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8 for Playstation, just go and get this game!
