4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for one who is building a car from the ground up.
It is a very good book for someone who is interested in building a car from the chassis up. It gives a good techniques on suspension and brakes. It also gives points on some mistakes others have made and trys to steer you clear of them. I have built several kit cars and this time I am building the frame and suspension. You did not ship my book to me because I live in United States on Guam. We would really appriciate if you would ship all orders to Guam via USPS priority mail because it is cheaper and we will get the products we order. I am not pleased that you have changed to only UPS. Please review your policy.

It also gives points on some mistakes others have made and trys to steer you clear of them. I have built several kit cars and this time I am building the frame and suspension. The book does not add too much help for one who is just putting a fiberglas body on a donor car. The instruction manual from the manufacturer would be much more valuable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to check before starting a project, September 28, 2010

It is a great book and have a lot of info on what is involved into building your own car, reading it is a must if you are considering such a project, either a Hot rod or a kit car or even a locost (building your own chasis from scratch). It is well written and has lots of pictures, it is more oriented towards the v-8 croud, but i found lots of useful information which helped me on my decision to build a mid engine locost, i highly recommend it

4.0 out of 5 stars Handbook is a bit strong, Subtitle is much better., October 3, 2001

Easy to read, ample pictures, and clear concise language. Recommended for those who are looking at getting into kitcars/hot rods or those just starting off on a first project. It touches base on the different systems of a car, enough specifics to let you get a feel, though it's a bit too general for helping out in the tight spots of specific cars.
As mentioned, handbook is probably a bit too strong a word to use for this book. The subtitle, however, points in a much better direction. This book covers those little things that you would usually only learn after your first time. It tries to impart that little bit of wisdom and experience to the reader. My copy was published in 1997, so one or two things don't keep on the cutting edge of the industry, but then most people who would find this useful aren't going to have a state of the art garage either.
Definately a good addition to the garage library for those interested in working on cars from the ground up, and looking for a helpful guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for first time builders, June 7, 1998
This review is from: The Car Builder's Handbook: Tips and Techniques for Builders of Kit Cars and Street Rods (Paperback)
I am getting ready to build a Cobra replica and I found this book very useful. Although this will be my first kit car, I have restored about a half dozen cars from jeeps to mustangs to impalas. Really good advice for beginners

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless to anyone with the slightest automotive experience., March 25, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Car Builder's Handbook: Tips and Techniques for Builders of Kit Cars and Street Rods (Paperback)
This book is beyond bland. It contains no information useful to anyone who has the slightest experience with automotive mechanics. It is typical of so many automotive books, and especially magazines, which contain only the most basic and generic information rather than addressing the difficult technical aspects of the subject. Any one who could find the information in this book useful and informative should NOT be attempting to build a kit car. My qualifications? I own a Lamborghini Countach kit car built on a stretched Fiero. I bought it partially assembled and finished it (if a project like this is ever finished!) last fall. It is registered, state inspected, and on the road.
